This "pig" like you call it submitted his program of reforms to a REFERENDUM, something that NEVER happened in the US. Do you know what a referendum is? A way of all the people decide on a very important issue regarding the government of the country, something that happens in all countries EXCEPT THE US. If Chávez was a "dictator" like you call it, he would never submit himself to the possibility of loosing, like he did.
Furthermore, Chávez IS NOT a dictator, he WON last years presidential ellection in a clear, democratic and universal poll, something that DOESN'T happen in the US.
What Chávez did was to nationalize the oil industry, that is, instead of the oil money going directly into THE POCKETS OF BIG OIL TYCOONS, MAINLY AMERICANS, the money from oil is going to where it is most needed, to the pockets of ALL the venezuelans, especially those who need more, the poor.
The reforms he submitted to the people's will, although not perfect, did not have anything to do with Chávez being president for ever, like I read and seen in the american media, the reform only was to end the limitations on a single person running for president more than 3 times in a row. Even if Chávez could run a fourth time, he would still have to submit himself to an election, where's the "dictatorship" in this?
Speaking of dictators, the US should know what they're talking about because in the 1960's and 70's South-America was FULL of dictators armed, funded and in most cases installed in power by the CIA.
And since I've talked about the CIA, everybody in the real world, that is, outside the US, everybody knows that the TWO attempts of overthrowing Chávez ( a president elected two times by the people) with a military coup were organized and funded by the CIA, some of the tycoons that lost their oil bussiness in Venezuela AND the government of Spain, then with Aznar, an extreme-right conservative politician as prime-minister.

in my opinion i'm slightly bummed...yet...there's a lotta water between now and 2012. with a bit of luck the authorities will the two revisit the referendum subject or...who's acquainted with. possibly they are going to groom a sparkling chief with visions greater beneficial than those of Hugo Chavez. Que viva Hugo Chavez...Que viva Venezuela!

You right about the fact that he is ruining the country. I think the real rub is; he's not going to quit! I mean he has already given Venezuela notice that he wants the power for ever... What else can he say??? When he finally does take over as dictator, we'll (the US) step in and again be accused of meddling in other country affairs, but this time it will be worth it to see the sulfur smelling fat man on trial.

He will probably end up the way most dictators do. A pick, an axe , a bullet , it all adds up to the same .
