If tax cuts for the rich help expand the economy (of which I agree)…

...then by the same account, would giving the same huge tax refund to the middle and lower classes not accomplish the same thing merely on the basis that their spent dollars tend to flow to the most productive members of society (back to the rich)?

While I agree that giving the money back to the members of society who are producing (and who actually paid the taxes in the first place) seems to offer the biggest benefit, it seems to me that in the long run (more than a year) it won't matter anyway who it is going back to because the middle and lower classes spend it frivolously (making profits for the rich) anyway which is why they are poor in the first place. At least this would give them a better chance to become better producers themselves.

So why harp on who is getting the tax cut, just make a tax cut and give it back to someone. It all ends up being positive.

I have had an open DCFS case. I just learned that I have to to appear at the City Attorney's office for a hearing to see if they want to persue criminal charges. I won't go into deatils but my kids have NEVER been abused - I believe my son's daycare was overzealous in phoning in their concern over literally a scratch on my son's face. Anyways, I just heard from DCFS today that my case has been closed. How will this affect the City Attorney's appt? Thank you!

Bush said "long rule of a cruel dictator is nearing its end" about Cuba....i think this phrase is ironic comming from bush, when his 7 year dictaorship is nearing its end...1 year left. Anyone else find it highly ironic, and offensive that he would say such a demeaning thing?

Improving the appalling state of US education for starters.
America ranks behind 16 third world countries in literacy standards and for a developed nation a staggeringly low level of tertiary education.

The outlay for what can only be described as a war for profit at the expense of future generations must surely disgust most US citizens.

I shall stand by for the abuse from certain quarters...

It seems as though politics is quite a volatile topic here (with good reason), for liberals, conservatives, and everyone in between. I'm just wondering how many of you feel as strongly about your convictions when applied to your personal life.

Answering honestly, do you think you could do it? Which issues do you foresee that you MUST agree upon, and which are you willing to leave alone? To what extent must your political views match?

Ok, so my Pop passed away in March. He was in the air force as a young man and spent most of the Korean war in intelligence. He deciphered morse codes all day long. He gave tribute to doing so by tattooing the plane on his forearm.
As a tribute to him, I had his name tattooed on my ankle. My mom also did the same thing. My brother is very adamant about having that plane tattooed on his shoulder. For the life of us, we CANNOT remember what its called. Is there something called a Boenig? Was anyone in air force during the Korean war who would be able to give a closer to exact model? thanks.

BAGHDAD, Sept. 25 — Sunni extremists appear to have begun a systematic campaign to assassinate police chiefs, police officers and other Interior Ministry officials throughout Iraq, with at least 10 attacks in the last 48 hours...“The main reason behind all these attacks is the signs of improvement of the security situation mentioned in the Crocker-Petreus report,” said Tahseen al-Sheikhly, a spokesman for the Iraqi security forces"

Who is this guy and is he suing everybody for everything? Look, you have the right to sue in civil court if you were done wrong. But how much is James Sokolove going to keep if you are awarded damages? 10% sounds ok. It will be much more than that I'm sure. Does anybody know? Do such lawyers really care if you receive damages or are they only out to make money?

Really? Why doesn't he charge less?

on taxation for its revenues?
Consider the problems in the middle east. Oil rich countries get their revenues by selling oil. In those countries, the government doesn't need a thriving economy to tax the incomes of its people.
Since they pump their money out of the ground, they need not educate their people. They need not to build an infrastructure to encourage business growth. They don't need more jobs for an expanding population. They don't need a strong manufacturing base to compete on the international market.
All they need is oil pumps and pipelines.
In such countries, where would the common person direct his or her frustration over such a disconnect?
When there are two children in a family and one gets all the attention from the parent while the other is ignored, does the ignored child blame the parent or the other sibling for the lack of attention?
