Bush said "long rule of a cruel dictator is nearing its end" about Cuba....i think this phrase is ironic comming from bush, when his 7 year dictaorship is nearing its end...1 year left. Anyone else find it highly ironic, and offensive that he would say such a demeaning thing?

I did take government class people, and i never claimed to live under a dictator, other than the past 7 years under bush.
Bush has never really been elected,so all of you claiming democratic process, doesnt hold up.
Bush has made himself imune to the checks and balance system put in place to make sure a leader cant get away with whatever he wants, this has been proven many many many times, that is the sign of a dictator.
I love how Bushies have no intellegent thought.

I find it ironic that he doesn't see himself as a Dictator -- an inability to see the logical consequences of calling himself a Decider who is immune to any checks and balances.
I don't find it offensive -- he's entitled to his opinion about Cuba and Castro.
And it remains to be seen if he really will step down in January 2009 -- odds are only 70% that he will.

The Bush Supporter has morphed into
a bizarre new creature as well getting
further and further from reality.
They are terrified, and it is palpable.
They are listening to Prez and his minions speak
of a world that is not this solid one - we all live in -
but a make-believe one that they want desperately.
The Dubya believers have responded to their phobiae
and the fear mongering of the Bushites for so long that
the reality of Cheney and his group is not registering.
It is like watching the chimp on the
Nature Channel whose infant has died,
and she still carries it around, nurturing its
limp lifeless body, unable to accept the obvious .

Bush has tried to become a dictator through the unprecedented expansion of executive power and by undermining the Constitution. He has, however, not succeeded because in a fundamentally free and democratic country people will resist, protest, speak out and point out such violations. It is not only ironic that he fails to acknowledge his own grab for power but he fails to criticize some of this country’s friends and allies that are dictatorships.

I don't agree that Bush is a dictator, but we all know he would love to be one. That's obvious since he was never really elected. Of all the things to talk about by Bush, he chooses to focus on a tiny island in the Caribbean and not on his failures in Iraq. Unbelievable! The man shows incredible ignorance combined with limitless arrogance everytime he opens his pie hole. I can't wait to get an adult into the White House again. And, it appears that all the adults exist in the Democratic parties list of candidates this time around with the exception of Ron Paul. The elections of 2008 can't come too soon for me. This white house administration is far more ironic than any rational and thinking person can bear.

Oh, so if Bush is a dictator, he must be able to:
1) Muzzle the press. Hmm, no. Not even a little bit. The press is vicious. He's doing a terrible job as dictator in this area.
2) Destroy the opposition. Gee, didn't the Democrats take over a bunch of seats in the House and Senate. Gosh golly gee, Bush is really messing up as dictator. He can't eliminate the opposition. Bad Bush! Bad, bad dictator.
3) Use the wealth of the nation for himself. Last time I looked, Congress stil had to budget every single penny. Bush has got to learn that to be an effective dictator, you need to steal the piggy bank.
4) Surround himself with only others like himself. Bush's cabinet is the most diverse in history: full of women and blacks. Bush needs to get himself a dictionary and learn that dictators are racist. He commited a venal sin by having Condi Rice as his Secretary of State and Hispanic Alberto Gonzalez as Attorney General, and (gasp) another black as head of Urban Affairs, and all those.... women? Who ever heard of a legitimate dictator allowing women into power. He is a bad, bad, dictator.
5) Spreading freedom and democracy around the world. What's he trying to do, phase out his job? All those democracies won't leave any room for his fellow dictators. Shame on him for avoiding self interest.

Thank you Libs for all the Thumbs Down. I take each one with pride, as a badge of honor. I haven't seen one thing that contradicts what I've said. The irony here is Bush is committed to what is most admirable about the United States: our desire to see people living free and peacefully. That is the polar opposite of a dictator.
Democracy is the best solution for this since no two democracies have ever gone to war against one another... or hadn't you thought about that?

How can you even hope to compare Bush with Castro? In case you were sleeping during government class, Bush was voted in by the people of this great country of ours, were as Castro took over Cuba using violence and killing all those who apposed his reign. If Bush bothers you so badly, perhaps you should move to Cuba and get a taste of a real dictatorship.

You have absolutely no idea as to what you are talking about and claiming that you have lived under a dictatorship when you don't is a shameful thing to claim. Now go back to your video games and nice warm comfy home.
Let me guess, you can claim that you are out of food, water and can’t feed your family because of his dictatorship right? You can’t speak your mind or spill your diarrhea of the mouth here on the internet can you…
You kind of “people” make me sick!
I spent 3 months off the coast of Cuba picking up dehydrated, sunburned, sharkbitten, starving refugees fleeing a real dictator.

I find it ironic that you do not know the difference between a dictator and a President who leaves when his term is up. If Bush was half the dictator you say he is, he could easily tract your post, have the cia take you out somewhere and cap you in the noggin. After 7 years all liberals would have been missing or fleeing to Canada.
