No -- the rebels (in the story) were liberals -- they wanted freedom and opposed oppressive govt control.

Conservatives are like the Old Republic -- strong in tradition, and wanting to see things remain in the status quo -- and easily controlled (because of their desire for conformity) by the evil forces that sought domination.
