It seems as though politics is quite a volatile topic here (with good reason), for liberals, conservatives, and everyone in between. I'm just wondering how many of you feel as strongly about your convictions when applied to your personal life.
Answering honestly, do you think you could do it? Which issues do you foresee that you MUST agree upon, and which are you willing to leave alone? To what extent must your political views match?

I guess if you don't take it too seriously, then it might work out. Respect is the key for me, and if she has the courtesy to listen to my views (and if I have the patience to listen to hers), we might be able to discuss politics and still have a relationship.
Some issues I'm not willing to compromise on, and some I am. I just have to make sure that we're not on the opposite sides of being stubborn on the same issues.
This is why my boss has forbidden me to listen to talk radio at work. I take it too seriously and begin yelling at inanimate objects, distracting other clients.

Not all... but it is a big part of me... so they would have to at least me in the same neighborhood as I am for most of the issues. Which my fiance and I pretty much see eye to eye on the issues.

I know other people who have been able to do that and it's worked out fine. Politics and my interest in it, is a big part of my life. I've always found myself attracted to people that I can discuss politics with and frankly have never formed a relationship with a partner who is a liberal. In all honesty (and you're getting it), I don't know how that would work out.
There are times when I can be damned stubborn, and when it comes to politics, my horns tend to grow. :)

I don't know. My boyfriend and I are pretty much on the same page. But we have completely different life experiences and are 9 years apart - so we have completely different perspectives. We have really great political discussions and both learn alot from each other.
I think if he was a die hard liberal there would be some problems....we are both pretty compassionate about our politics. But, then again, my mom is a bleeding heart liberal....we just don't talk politics.

I think it would depend on the extent of our disagreement. I'm quite left leaning and I would be fine with either a moderate person or a moderate republican. There are some issues that would be deal breakers though like abortion, race, education, civil rights, poverty prevention, etc. Some of the issues are so central to my life/work that I think I would find it difficult to get past them. My partner and I agree generally agree on most things, although there are of course difference. (He prefers Edwards, I prefer Obama...)

I dated a Liberal her dad was mad rich and she was used to a life style that I could not provide for her, I did however fix her car, house and other things. Anyway I put myself throw school and I am pretty frugal with my cash but, well it gets complicated.
She kinda drugged me and stole a lot of money from me, she used drugs to steal from me sweet right.
So I know why the lib's want drugs legal so they can rob the working class people, sweet correct.
Dating her was the worst mistake of my life.
Conservative due to earning everything I own,
and to think my do-less cousins robbed my Grand parents blind it is funny because they always said I would appreciate what I earned and my cousins were having mad money and not doing any work. It is all to funny no wonder they were laughing at me here is a guy who worked for a living and earned everything and was trying to teach them to be self functioning and they'd just laugh because they were living for free and better than me.
Anyway this is kinda a rant, but all those people were liberals so I just do not think it is good to date people who are basically criminals.

Political views have now become more culturally separated. So in that sense we would have to have the same views on how people should be treated and what is good and bad.

Been married to the same man for 23 yrs. He's still a republican, I am now a independent with liberal leanings. I want to vote the issues, he votes a straight republican ticket. We just don't talk about it.

Good grief no way would my relationship last. Men have very fragile egos, they need constant encouragement and reinforcement. My husband gets his feelings hurt if I tell him he over cooked the spaghetti. Besides that he already knows all of my secrets and would use them against me, for example -She cant even balance her check book how could she balance the state budget.

I think it would be kind of fun, if she was civil. Opposites do attract after all. Being in my 20's, most women my age are liberal anyway, not like I have much choice. So long as she wasn't some conspiracy theorist raving lunatic, I think we'd have a shot.
