My maltese puppy had a broken leg. We took her in to the vet... and scheduled for surgery, she stayed over night there. The next day, I called to check on her. The nurse said that they were just starting the operation. My husband later received a call from the nurse saying that they had marked and shaved the wrong leg. My husband repeated that, and she said "yeah, so basically she has a matching leg"... The next day, I went to pick her up. They went over the xrays and how to take care of her (with the medicine and to keep her cast dry). BUT they did not even mention about how they shaved the wrong leg AND cut open/stitched up the wrong leg.

The vet had given me a verbal quote on the first day.. he said "about eleven to twelve hundred dollars"... but I was charged about $1636 (full price was $1736, but there's a $100 discount). The operation was to insert 2 pins at a joint.

Is cutting the wrong leg malpractice? And is it wrong not to tell us? What about reparations?

During the Revolutionary War, George Washington forbade mistreatment of POW's, even thought the British and Hessians killed innocent American civilians had a tendency to abuse and execute captured American rebel troops.

The logic used to justify mistreatment of Iraqi Pow's and terror suspects is the same the British used during the Revolutionary War. American rebel troops did not follow the normal rules of engagement. They did not always wear uniforms and hid among civilians.

Washington said "We are fighting for a cause, and our cause requires that we behave with honor."

He also told his troops that by treating POW's humanely, they could be convinced to join the American cause.

Do terrorist deserve humane treatment? No.

Should they be treated humanely anyway? Yes.

Why? Because that is what separates us from them. That is what makes us the good guys and them the bad guys.

I notice a tendency of people on both sides to attack any opinion which doesn't agree with their own, even when the question/answer is designed to promote understanding of a particular mindset or position and does not denigrate counter opinions in any fashion. With such a prevailing mindset present in so many is it even possible to find middle ground on which to begin to agree on issues of interest to us all?
