Could another U.S. civil war be in our future somewhere down the line?

Wouldn't be much of a civil war. Liberals, led by Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, etc could be easily defeated by a determined troop of Webelos. The only way the liberals could win is if the conservatives accepted a ride on a vehicle driven by Ted Kennedy. We all know what happens to Ted's passengers.

That's good! The biggest difference is: Conservatives believe in God, smaller government, and personal responsibility. Liberals suffer a mental disorder and believe (read as dream) that the State (i.e. government) should play the role of God in order to create a Heaven on Earth (where there is no need for personal responsibility b/c the government will make all choices for all individuals). I'm pretty sure that's what the story above gets at.

I don't think so. It's easy to think that we might be headed that way, but one thing most of us still have in common is we love this country. As long as that love survives, there will be no civil war. As long as people refuse to take up arms against their own countrymen who might disagree with their position, we will remain one country, under god, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and liberals may have some deep seeded differences, but in the end, they all want the same thing. They all want to continually work for a better future for their children. The major difference is, they disagree about how to get there.

So there you go, similar desires for the future, similar love for their country and similar love for their children. All that equals no civil war.

We are all Americans, not conservative Americans, liberal Americans, European Americans, African Americans, Hispanic Americans or Asian Americans. We need to stop sub-categorizing who we are.

Viva America!!!

Linlyons, the civil war was about keeping this country together, not Lincoln "taking" property from southern slave owners. That is utter nonsense. My ancestors were slave owners. Their plantation was taken from them and they became part of the "riches to rags in one generation" casulalty of the civil war, but it wasn't lincoln who did it. At this point, 7 generations later, there is no blame to place. It's history, meant to be studied and learned from. Make no mistake about it though, the civil war was not about freeing slaves, it was about keeping a fractured union together!

I hope not. The libs would be in deep dodo since most of them do not own guns and are against war. It would be hard to fight with sticks and rocks. Plus as soon as 1 or 2 of them were killed they would want to pull out, oops I mean surrender.

doubt its enough reason for a civil war, we have a hard enough time getting people out of their houses to vote let alone go fight in a civil war...
I suggest joining the independent party

Sometimes it feels that way. The extreme rhetoric that I folks like Ann Coulter spew and the way the religious right tries to imply that we Democrats are not Christians is sometime very frightening.

Just when did it become un-American to be different?? What kind of society would it be with only Republicans or only Democrats??

Let's be honest folks, if it were just Republicans...well eventually the radical right wingers would want to get rid of the more moderate Republicans who just aren't holy enough, just aren't patriotic enough, just not conservative enough.

The greatest threat to this country comes when the moderate majority sits back and lets the whackos on the right and left set the agendas in this nation. We need to smack these nut jobs down.

Nope. No one wants to fight. They just want to argue and call each other names.

Hopefully, we can all see that regardless of political party or political philosophy, we all want what is best for our families and our country. We just have somewhat different visions of what is best and how to get there.

No. Besides, what would we be fighting about? The peaceniks v. the ones who want to fight terrorism? I don't get it. Who would fight fellow Americans but not terrorists?
