walking thru a residential area? I'm not sure what the law is here in my hometown , I'll call the cops tomorrow to find out for sure, but I do not own a car, and I sometimes walk a mile to the convenience store for a beer and drink it while walking home. Note: not on any commercial property, only when walking back home in residential areas. I do not see why it should be - after all, I am NOT driving, clearly, and am drinking only ONE beer while WALKING.......

President Bush has become dangerously steeped in ideas of Armageddon, the Apocalypse, an imminent war with Satanic forces in the Middle East, and an urgency to construct an American theocracy to fulfill God's end-of-days plan, according to close observers.

Historians and investigative journalists following the "end-time Christian" movement have grown alarmed at the impact it may be having on Bush's Middle East policies, including the current war in Iraq, the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, strife in Lebanon and attempts to find a cause for war against Iran.

Many people are aware that Bush is "the most aggressively religious president in American History," as eminent historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr. described him, (Schlesinger, "War and the Presidency," 143).

Army Lt. General William "Jerry" Boykin made headlines in 2003 when he said he believed America was engaged in a holy war as a "Christian nation" battling Satan. Adversaries can be defeated, he said, "only if we come against them in the name of Jesus." Despite his highly publicized rhetoric, Boykin remains Bush's deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence.

My friend and I are having a debate. She says that since she just turned 18 and her mom is disabled, she is considered a dependant and should get 600+ dollars from social security each month. She says this is because she goes to high school full time and still lives with her mom. I thought, however, three things consituted a dependant:
1-Being under the age of 18
2-Being retired and living with a family member
3-Being disabled and living with a family member.

When she lays out her situation, it is:
-She lives with her mom, who is disabled
-She is 18
-She is fully capable of getting a job
-She goes to High School full time

So is she considered a depenant under her mother by social security?

The judicial system convicted Libby of a crime and sentenced him to jail time. Bush then made the judicial branch's decision moot.

Clinton went through with his entire sentence - the full impeachment process. He didn't just say, "well, I'm the president, and I'm declaring this over, because it's excessive".

Why do conservatives pretend these are identical situations? Do they just not know any better?

So, the Executive can intervene in the Judiciary and overrule an independent judge's sentence in the US. And if you are on the president's team you can break the law because you will not go to jail, right?

Bush spares Libby from jail term

US President George W Bush has intervened to prevent Lewis Libby, a convicted former vice-presidential aide, from serving a prison term.
President Bush described as "excessive" the 30-month sentence Libby was facing for obstructing an inquiry into the leaking of a CIA agent's name.
Though no longer required to go to jail, Libby is still due to serve a period of probation and pay a fine.
A leading Democratic politician said Mr Bush's decision was "disgraceful".
History will judge the president "harshly" for using his power to benefit his own Vice President's chief of staff, Harry Reid, the leading Democrat in the US Senate, said.
Lewis Libby, also known by his nickname, "Scooter" Libby, was found guilty in March of perjury and obstructing justice in a case connected to Washington's decision to invade Iraq.
His trial saw the White House accused of having illegally made public the identity of a serving CIA agent, Valerie Plame, in an apparent effort to embarrass her husband.

Ms Plame's husband, a former US diplomat, had publicly criticised the basis for the invasion of Iraq.
Libby was found to have lied to investigators about conversations where he mentioned Ms Plame but he was not convicted of having directly leaked her name.
He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison, two years of probation and a fine of $250,000 (£125,000).
Democratic leader Harry Reid said the conviction was "the one faint glimmer of accountability for White House efforts to manipulate intelligence and silence critics of the Iraq war".
Responding to President Bush's decision to commute Libby's sentence, he said: "Now, even that small bit of justice has been undone."
'Forever damaged'
Hours before President Bush's announcement, an appeals court had told Libby he could no longer delay going to jail.
The judge ruled that Libby could not remain free on bail while his lawyer appealed against the sentence.
President Bush said he had until now refrained from intervening in the case, waiting instead for the appeals process to take its course.
"But with the denial of bail being upheld and incarceration imminent, I believe it is now important to react to that decision," he said.
"I respect the jury's verdict," President Bush said. "But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr Libby is excessive," Mr Bush said.
However, he said, Libby's remaining punishments - the probation period and fine - were "harsh" and would leave his reputation "forever damaged".
The BBC's James Westhead in Washington said the president's decision was a compromise between pardoning Libby outright and allowing his full sentence to stand.

In 1983, Rich was indicted in federal court of evading more than $48 million in taxes. He was also charged with 51 counts of tax fraud and with running illegal oil deals with Iran during the hostage crisis.

Marc Rich's socialite ex-wife has donated an estimated $1 million to Democratic causes, including $70,000 to Hillary Clinton's successful Senate campaign and $450,000 to the Clinton presidential library fund. She also lobbied heavily for Marc's pardon.

http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/story?id=295926

Former American fugitive Marc Rich was a middleman for several of Iraq's suspect oil deals in February 2001, just one month after his pardon from President Clinton, according to oil industry shipping records obtained by ABC News.

And a U.S. criminal investigation is looking into whether Rich, as well as several other prominent oil traders, made illegal payments to Iraq in order to obtain the lucrative oil contracts.
