As a citizen of the United States, I am shocked and appalled by the recent abuses of power by the executive branch. Has our Republic died under the authority of big government and unlimited power? Can anything be done or is a Revolution the only solution to the violation of our personal liberties?

My husband signed a 5 year contract because he was told that he would not be able to specialize in a certain field of expertise. The rationale being the schooling would take 18 months. Well, the schooling took 90 days and my husband was deployed before he even served 18 months in the military. He didn't get the training he was told. Needless to say, my husband regrets his decision. Don't get me wrong though, he is the gullable one for believing the recruiter to begin with. But, are there any penalties for this misleading information? Is there anyway to get a hold of the original contract? Are recruiters held accountable for the lies that they tell? I have heard stories and read books about people in similar situations....

why are we spending so much time and money on this war trying to "help" another country instead of spending the time and money on our own country on so many things we have going wrong in America? This is a sincere question that confuses me and it might have been answered and debated already but I'd like some answers and opinions. Wouldnt it be in the Americans best interest to spend the Americans tax money to better the Americans in America?

EDMONTON (CP) - A series of ponds on the Arctic tundra that have formed a crucial component of Ellesmere Island's ecosystem for 6,000 years have largely dried up and blown away in a single generation, says new research that suggests climate change may be affecting the North faster than anyone thought.
"It's very strong evidence that the Arctic is warming and that it's warming faster than we thought it was going to happen," said Marianne Douglas, a University of Alberta biologist who's been studying the ponds on the east coast of Ellesmere Island since 1983.
In a paper published Tuesday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Douglas summarizes research she and her fellow researchers have conducted on a series of ponds on Cape Herschel.
The ponds varied in size from a few hundred to several thousand square metres and ranged from boggy marshland to one metre deep. Sediment samples suggest some of the larger ponds were up to 6,000 years old.

In finances, the higher the return on your investment, the higher the risk associated with your investment. Given this basic truth, lets examine what is going on with a typical soldier or armed forces personnel.
A soldier has life benefits to his/her service. You get vehicle discounts, money from the government, paid education, shelter, guaranteed salary in your military workplace. These benefits amount to HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of dollars. What does a soldier risk? All you put on the line is your life. However, there is no guarantee of death. You may survive a war or there may be no war. THAT is the inherent risk you assume in the transaction.
Lets add in that the service is voluntary. Would it be fair if an investment existed where with no risk soldiers could reel in the benefits amounting to those sums? No! So a couple died. It's all in the risk! Considering how many people signed up for the armed forces, the number that died is rather subtle. So why are people so mad with wars?

Our nation's laws have been twisted to fatten the pockets of these two men. Our civilians have been murdered while Bush sat on his thumb and Cheney was in hiding.

They're responsible for killing thousands of Iraqi civilians, endangered thousands of American troops and stripping our country of any dignity it had.

I say we should demand these two enemies of America step down.

Haven't they created enough damage and filled their pockets enough?

Well, I suppose the only people who are allowed to lie to Congress are the Republicans, but only in treasonous cases.

If your a Democrat, you get publicly chastized for it. If your a Republican you get your sentence commuted.

Nice show of croneyism, Mr. President.

Recruiting problems mean many militaries of the world are understaffed. Is it worth lowering fitness standards if that's what it takes to keep the military from shrinking to an inpractical size?

Keeping in mind that society has gone soft, and the average young man can't get down and do fifty pushups anymore. Sort of a trade-off between a large, powerful deployable force and a small, elite professional defence force.
