Let's start here, with a quote from the CDC. “Despite the slow steady declines in prevalence in the United States, cigarette smoking still causes hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths each year," said Dr. Corinne Husten, acting director, CDC Office on Smoking and Health.

Don't you find it disturbing that while everyone is all in a dither over us being attacked here at home by terrorists--that with nearly a half million tobacco related deaths in the U.S. per year--those guilty of these alarming number of deaths are given a pass (in the name of commerce and profits)?

President Bush claimed in the days after 911 that "You're either with us, or you are against us." He was speaking of other governments around the world. What I want to know is why is the U.S. Govt is not held to those same standards? Why don't we, get just as worked up over this as we do foreign terrorism? We've lost 6 Million lives to tobacco since 911.

According to Senator James Inhofe, (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070328/us_nm/gore_concert_dc_2): '"Senator Inhofe objects to having any events on the Capitol grounds that are either highly partisan or politically controversial -- and the proposed Gore concert is both," said spokesman Marc Morano.'

Is the issue of global warming really a partisan issue? Granted, Republicans through their rejection of science have made all issues of science "partisan" in the most raw, basic, and useless of definitions... but is the problem of global warming (which is happening regardless of whether it's caused by CO2, the sun, or other factors... or any combination thereof) really a partisan issue?

I say no... these kinds of problems are problems for all of us, not just one party. What say you?

Further, does this kind of rhetoric hurt the productivity of the government to solve major problems facing the world?

I have seen it said that Democrats should not receive any blame for a failure in Iraq, even if they cut funds or otherwise cripple the effort, because Bush got us into Iraq in the first place.

I hate to talk in terms of credit or blame, but it's come up, so here goes:

Imagine a doctor who, let's assume, schedules a patient for unnecessary surgery. The operation doesn't go as well as planned. A new doctor comes in and says "you botched it and we need a new approach." This new doctor then says "this is already a failure, so let's just quit" or "let's decide on a deadline - this will be over in an hour no matter what." Wouldn't Dr. #2 share some responsibility for failure?

No, my example is different because the operation doesn't cost billions of dollars, people aren't shooting at the doctors, and maybe the "patient" (Iraq) cannot, or should not be saved.

But my point is, the past is not the only consideration. I want to know what we should do NOW.

Any thoughts?

The prevailing thought today from the socialists is that you should celebrate and worship the racial class you are in seeing that as some sort of achievement. They see race as an achievement. Considering you have nothing at all to do with your race selection, how could that be considered an achievement.

Multiculturalism states that culture, ideas, customs and skills are a matter of racial membership. That is in itself racism at its finest. Lets build a box, put people in it, and never let them leave or improve and move on to bigger and better things.

This states that multiculturalism, that different cultural values, are morally equivalent. In a civilized world that concept is purely ludricous. Consider female mutilation (Middle East), slavery (N. Sudan), stoning of women for adultery (Middle East). Those differences in culture are not morally equivalent to my cultural values.

A woman is claiming that she has invented putting stamped fondant on a cupcake and that that is exclusively her idea and no one should copy it otherwise it would be a law violation... So if I go out and buy some fondant and stomp on it with my foot to make a pattern to put on my cupcakes and sell it, is that is a law violation? She is going after people using yahoo flickr to call and name people as law violators, is this not defaming? Is she right to do this? How come the twinky factory isn't sueing the people that are famous for replicating twinknies and hohos..

From Metroactive (http://www.metroactive.com/metro/03.21.07/dianne-feinstein-resigns-0712.html):

"SEN. Dianne Feinstein has resigned from the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee. As previously and extensively reviewed in these pages, Feinstein was chairperson and ranking member of MILCON for six years, during which time she had a conflict of interest due to her husband Richard C. Blum's ownership of two major defense contractors, who were awarded billions of dollars for military construction projects approved by Feinstein."

Doesn't something like this warrant additional press coverage and investigation?

Here is my question I saw David Gregory of NBC news rapping with Carl Rove and other white house officials don't they realize they blur the lines when it comes to objectivity how can you hobnob with government officials and remain impartial and give the the American people just the facts on what is going on in governtment. I think the press needs to take a long hard look at themselves.

We've all seen the questions, and the same links have been posted again and again and again. We know you think 9/11 was an "inside job." You folks are nothing if not persistent.

Some folks are now saying the capture of UK servicemen by Iran was somehow "staged" as well.

So my question is, what to you would indicate that an attack is NOT a "false flag" operation?

If you have criteria indicating a phony incident, you must have criteria indicating a real one. So tell us what a "real attack" would look like.

Please don't post all the same links. Use your OWN mind to answer.

Frankly, I think folks like you could claim ANY attack was a government operation, depending only on whether it advances your political agenda, whatever it is.

But here's a chance to answer, and "educate" us all.

ANNAPOLIS—The Maryland Senate and House of Delegates have passed legislation to allow convicted felons to regain the right to vote after they have completed their sentences. Currently, Senate Bill 488 and House Bill 554, the so-called Voter Registration Protection Act, appear destined for the desk of Martin O’Malley to be signed into law. The Democrat majority pushed these bills through the legislature and voted down amendments that would have excluded murderers, rapists, and child molesters from this law. Maryland Republican Party Chairman James Pelura had the following comment about this bill:

“The Democrat majority has gone too far in passing legislation to allow convicted murderers, child molesters, rapists, and many other violent offenders to regain the right to vote. All of these convicted felons are people who have rejected our society and civil order. This smacks in the face of law-abiding citizens and victims everywhere.”

"If Congress fails to pass a bill to fund our troops on the front lines, the American people will know who to hold responsible," Bush said.
The Senate was expected on Thursday to pass a $122 billion bill that would require Bush to start bringing home an unspecified number of troops within four months, with a nonbinding goal of ceasing combat operations as of March 31, 2008.
But Pelosi and Reid didn't flinch.
"On this very important matter, I would extend a hand of friendship to the president, just to say to him, 'Calm down with the threats,'" she said. "There's a new Congress in town. We accept your constitutional role. We want you to accept ours."
Democrats acknowledge they do not have enough support in Congress to override Bush's veto, but say they will continue to ratchet up the pressure until he changes course.
Impeachment is the only course of action for Democrats. The American people know that Defense is funded for all of 2007 at $498 billion. The $122 billion is in addition to that number. Pure crap from another brain dead Republican, "I think the sooner we can get this bill ... down to the president for veto, we can get serious about passing a bill that will get money to the troops," said Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
