Okay, I understand that there are conservative groups that say it is all just a hoax or that the reason for climate warming is cyclical. Fine. I am cool with that. I just wonder why, even if you believe there is no global warming, there is such fervent opposition to taking steps to address things that may or may not be damaging the planet. What is the real harm in treating the Earth a little better?

What you have to remember is what makes republicans, republicans...money matters. The way a lot of us see this is just another way for someone like Gore to sneak in tax increases via "carbon credits" and "pollution taxes". I mean, if it's such solid science, then why doesn't Gore buy it himself? He still lives in a giant home pumping tons of carbon into the air with his jet and surely, he and his security detail aren't rocking out Priuses around town. The overwhelming though is, "whoa, wait a minute...who is this guy to tell me wht to do when he doesn't even do it himself?"

It's not so much that republicans don't believe in global warming, it's that this is just another opportunity for the government to reach further into our lives and dictate what we can drive, when we can drive it, how we fly, how often we fly, what kind of lightbulbs we use, what kind of water usage we're allowed, etc. and whether it's a left or right government is of no difference.

As a republican, the thought process is: instead of taxing the hell out of everyone to pay for "the environment" (I think we all have some sort of grasp on government spending and how it nevers goes to what it's meant for...) we should embrace the technologies that we've developed and encourage people, especially youth, to produce newer and cleaner ways to go through life, whether it's a hydrogen powered car or new industrial smokestack scrubbers, etc. Capitalism is what this country is built on and has succeeded with for the past 200 years, and none of our best and most useful inventions were created by the government, they were inveted by the American public who sought to fill a demand with a supply, and in the process, still manage to contribute to our nation's tax system.

I think we all understand as well that something is going on, whether it's cyclical, sun-related or our own doing is still out to the jury, and I think that the only thing dividing the left and the right anymore is how to fix it.

There is nothing wrong with being better stewards of our planet. You must realize a very valid point. And that point is that global warming started long before mankind was around. Case in point is what happened to the "Ice Age"? It melted right? Why did it melt? Was it due to pollution by man? Its so obvious that this earth is warming up a little bit but man has nothing to do with it. That should be painfully obvious as well except for the people who want to tear down our capitalist society.

Its about the muti-billion dollar energy producers who's lobby has faught the clean air act since the early 70's when we had cities covered in smog .
Some people may not remember that it was so thick you could cut it with a knife .
The cost of cleaning up the pollution is billions of dollar that could be going into the pockets of the rich .
The rich who just do not give a damn about the poor .
You need to cut the grass to make your yard look nice . Do you care about your lawn mower .
The rich need workers to make money . Do they care about the worker .

See in a society where people are divided by economics ,those at the top do not care about those at the bottom . The more the better as it keeps wage low and profits high .
Bush Is part of this system that abuses the poor and does not even care about the needs of the Black americans at all .

This is not about global warming it is about money .

Because we understand the reason behind those that are making the claim. They want to blame, not humankind but America. The solution to every manufactured crisis is to damage America's economy.

This is not the first attempt to find some bogey man to scare everyone with. This has been going on for several decades. No matter the issue, it is a crisis and immediate action is required. That action is always to blame America and attempt to retard her progress.

This is supposed to be a free country. Who the hell are these people to dictate to us what kind of light bulbs we should use or cars we should drive? In China, they are selling cars and SUV's that only meet emissions standards from the 1970's.The technology already exists to burn cleaner but they just don't want to use it. Where is the outrage by environmentalists? In Europe their emission standards are way behind ours. Where is the environmental outrage? Wouldn't it be more productive to bring those other countries up to our emission standards?

You would not believe what comes out of factory smoke stacks in China. Why are there no petitions to the U.N.?
Answer: It doesn't help destroy America, that's why.

Republican camps are reactionery these days and play to fear and creating the evil liberal from withing that must be put down. It is a serious but silly game. Global warming should be addressed, and, ain't no corporation in the world, as truly powerful as they are, is willing to give up profit to seek long term environmental gains unless it can see that doing so will bring additional profits in the long run. Only the people, through the government, can make this kind of necessary change. Proud to be a liberal.

It has very little to do with whether global warming is real. It has to do with the solution.

Government is not the solution to every problem, Liberals! How can you hate the government when it suits you and look to the same government for a solution?

Conservatives believe in stewardship of the earth. I doubt the dirty diapers in grocery store parking lots were put there by Bush.

Excellent point! The cons want to make us believe that we need do nothing, just keep on spending our money and burning those fuels because what little we do could not make a difference. That promotes a "What, me worry?" attitude which in my opinion is kind lf lazy and immoral and by the way keeps making them a ton of money. Even if we do little to slow the warming, my kids and grandkids will know that I did everything I could to make their world a better place, I did not just sit on my butt and say oh well, nothing I can do, the heck with it.

Global warming has to do with science and we know how the Republican Party is influenced by the religious right they read only one book the Bible. They disagree with idea of global warming because Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson can not find in the Bible.

Look people, things couldn't be changed for generations, even if we stop burning fossil fuels right now. Quit letting politicians, governments, or anyone else keep instilling fear into you. By doing so they control, and keeps you from doing so much thinking for your self

they want God to take care of everything. they want nothing to do with science. They don't want to upset the corporate gravy train. They don't want to listen to liberal scientists. They don't like "issues". They don't care about the well being of animals or plants unless they can make money from it. Changing the economies of the world from using fossil fuels to other clean energies will remove the energy gravy train from the current batch.
