Bill Maher had some interesting things to say about patriotism (see below). What does patriotism mean to you?

Traitors don’t get to question my patriotism. What could be less patriotic than constantly screwing things up for America? * * * And indeed the party that flatters itself that they protect America is the party that has exhausted the military, left our ports open, and purposely outed a CIA agent, Valerie Plame. * * * Mark Twin said patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it. And I say Valerie Plame is a patriot because she spent her life serving her country; Scooter Libby is not because he spent his life serving Dick Cheney. Valerie Plame kept her secrets; the Bush Administration leaked like the plumbing at Walter Reed. In the year 2008 I really think that Hillary Clinton should run for president on a platform of restoring honor and integrity to the Oval Office.

Example: Gun Control. Criminals are called criminals because they do not obey laws. So what's the point in wasting time trying to pass legislation to enact 'tougher' Gun Control laws? Even Criminals know that Law Enforcment is stretched too thin to enforce what's on the books now...

If Bush is such a dumb Red neck, then how has he managed to steer a huricane into neworleans that affected only poor black people, bomb the levys, fly air planes into the world trade center, convince the really smart democrats to invade Iraq, increase global warming etc.?

Yes or No and a brief explanation would be nice.

I support it. That country needed help, if you were in those Iraqi's shoes I guarentee you would welcome a country coming in and fighting alongside you for your freedom.

have such Hazy memories?

Whenever some new corruption is uncovered in Bush's administration, they don't remember or recall any questionable behavior.
The list goes on and on including Rice,Hastert,Rumsfeld, and most recently Gonzalas.
Of course Bush doesn't remember staying the course, WMD, or Bin Laden either.

I just read an article quoting that Hillary Clinton is expected to raise $40 mil for her presidential campaign and Barack Obama is expected to come second at $20 mil for the first quarter. What are these funds used for?

Why are abortion and gay marriage federal issues? What on earth do either of those have to do with running a country? I realize they're emotional issues, but they're immaterial to the actual duties of governing. The federal government is not here to decide what's moral. The church has it's own pulpit, and the government already has too much to do. Let's hear the candidates talk about their ideas for the economy, education, security, foreign relations, and things they can actually do something about. Why do both parties waste so much time on controversial things that the government should never be involved with in the first place??

I have a profound commitment to democracy, as means and end. I am an committed not only to extending political democracy but to demanding democratic empowerment in the economy, in gender relations, and in culture. Democracy is not simply one of our political values but our means of restructuring society. Our vision is of a society in which people have a real voice in the choices and relationships that affect the entirety of our lives.

I have a vision of a more free, democratic and humane society.

I reject an international economic order sustained by private profit, alienated labor, race and gender discrimination, environmental destruction, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo.

I Have a vision of a humane international social order based both on democratic planning and market mechanisms to achieve equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships.

Terrorism is a tactic, not a political or social force in and of itself. Anyone can use it, and the idea that you can wage a "war" against it is unconscionable.
