Bill Maher had some interesting things to say about patriotism (see below). What does patriotism mean to you?

Traitors don’t get to question my patriotism. What could be less patriotic than constantly screwing things up for America? * * * And indeed the party that flatters itself that they protect America is the party that has exhausted the military, left our ports open, and purposely outed a CIA agent, Valerie Plame. * * * Mark Twin said patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it. And I say Valerie Plame is a patriot because she spent her life serving her country; Scooter Libby is not because he spent his life serving Dick Cheney. Valerie Plame kept her secrets; the Bush Administration leaked like the plumbing at Walter Reed. In the year 2008 I really think that Hillary Clinton should run for president on a platform of restoring honor and integrity to the Oval Office.

Hey, Pagan Princess: I'm with you. That was Bill Maher saying that about Hillary, and I think he was making a play on Bush's claim in 1999 that he would bring honor back to the Oval Office. What a joke that turned out to be!

I'm not sure who I'll vote for yet, either. Right now I really like Barack and John Edwards.

I agree with you completely on almost all counts. The only point I don't agree about, is one I also don't disagree about. Because I honestly don't know who I will support for president yet. I may support Hillary and I may not, I am just not sure. But the rest of what you said is right on.! *sm*

I would agree with you on the main point. I think you do not have to support the government blindly to be a patriot.

I would however like to let you know that Libby did not out Valerie Plame. It was man named Armatage. Libby was tried and convicted of perjury. He lied but not to cover up something about Plame. If he was covering something up it was something else.

Yeah it's funny how we are constantly told that if we don't agree witht the current administration, we are traitors and unpatriotic. I feel that the greatest patriots are those who can admit that our government has wronged us and then strive to make it better. I believe in democracy and unfortunately, that is not how our government is currently being run.
