Democrats to 'revisit' law creating border fence
By Shaun Waterman

Democrats will look again at the legislation mandating 698 miles of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border and might seek to scrap the plan altogether when they take control of Congress next year.
Rep. Bennie Thompson, Mississippi Democrat, told reporters this week that he expected to "revisit" the issue when he becomes chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee in the 110th Congress.
Mr. Thompson said the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) new border enforcement program, known as the Secure Border Initiative or SBI Net -- which includes monitors, cameras and other integrated surveillance systems -- is a viable alternative to fencing.
"We might do away with it, or look at [integrating it into] SBI Net," he said. "A virtual fence rather than a real one."
President Bush and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff have voiced similar concerns about building the fence.
DHS spokesman Russ Knocke told United Press International that in remote border areas, "virtual fencing ... is more advantageous, " whereas "traditional fencing has a core role in our border security strategy ... especially in urban areas."
"We're optimistic that working with Congress we'll get the flexibility to integrate traditional fencing into a seamless, high-tech border security system," Mr. Knocke said.
Mr. Thompson also pledged more aggressive oversight of the department, saying that improving its responsiveness to congressional requests for information and reports would be at the "top of my agenda."
He said his committee would seek to boost funding for rail and mass transit; strengthen security regulations for chemical plants and container cargo; and implement what he said were a number of recommendations from the September 11 commission that have yet to be addressed.
Mr. Thompson pledged to pass an authorization bill for the department. The committee has approved an authorization bill the past three years, but the legislation hasn't passed the full Senate, which some attribute to turf conflicts with other committees.
Mr. Thompson acknowledged that "there will still be some split jurisdiction, " but maintained that Democrats would be in a better position to work out turf issues. "We can make it work," he said.
He pledged to demand answers from Mr. Chertoff on what he said was an unacceptable level of vacancies in the department's senior ranks.
"The secretary needs to come clean with the committee and tell us why he can't fill these positions," Mr. Thompson said, adding that Mr. Chertoff would need to come up with ideas to address the situation, "or we will have to provide some ideas for him."

Is it legal to provide research to students as a service of a business? Research for them to use on their papers or homework, but not writing it for them. For college students, maybe high school students. Is this at all considered cheating according to the law? Can colleges sue the company for providing such a service?

Laws in the United States, particularly Michigan.

PLEASE only knowledge answers...links to credible sources are fine also.

What is wrong with us? Dont we realize social security and medicare is going to be gone? Are we all ignoring this?

Man.... I just saw this video called "Loose Change" and these college kids from New York did a very good job of putting this documentary together. It basically exposes a lot of truths about the terror attacks of 911 and makes it look like George Bush and his brother Marvin Bush were behind the whole thing! Then I did some investigating on my own and the facts I found have been overwhelming...please don't blame me for asking this question. I feel sorry for all the lives that were lost and our troops being led into war under false pretentions. I suggest you watch the "Loose Change" video yourself and form your own opinion.

My family is very rich and has a lot of connections so everything comes to me very easily. I know I can easily be successful with their help. But I dont want their help, I don't want to feel entitled to have them. I want to make it on my own. Would I be better off in the long run making in by myself or being assisted by my family forever?

I have a opinion are the democrats wasting time drilling oil execs about profits, or big oil has ripped off the taxpayers. I know oil industry works like a crime family with collusion so not to miss out on profit maxization. Yet, I don't see oil companies jacking prices up so high to cut into profit margins. Figure oil industry needs those profits since oil exploration is so ineffiecent a pratice to begin with. Its costs a of money to poke the earth to look for oil at times.

Have y'all seen this? There will be an exit off the highway with a yellow sign that says "exit 30 mph." Well, if the speed limit on the highway is 60 mph and the speed limit on the service road is 50 mph, then wouldn't it create a dangerous situation to slow down to 30 to exit? Don't you friggin hate it when people hit their brakes on the highway before they even get to the exit? It backs up traffic and impedes the traffic flow. Does anybody know the reason why they put these signs up at exits???

and billions U.S. dollars that are going the corrupted so-called Iraqi government leaders? Surely President Bush has enough intelligence to admit that his so-called victory in Iraq will never happen. There are too many parameters to deal with, Islamic religion and the clerics who has the most influence on the Muslims, more influence than the "elected" officials. Sectarian division of the people of Iraq. Over three years of the U.S. training the Iraqi police and army who refuses to fight their war, police and army who only joined for the pay. Supplied with weapons that are ending up in insurgents hands. Matter of fact, how many here know that some of our U.S. troops killed in Iraq were actually murdered by the same Iraqi police and army they are training?

I dont think Wall Streets care who runs the white-house really its just the defense, agriculutre, healthcare that really fear democrats really. The other industries feel now the democrats will them alone makes it easier to grow the company. I figure its a two-edge sword here some industries like democrats and others not too much.

Do they refuse to go back to their countries of origin because they will be labeled as a traitor in those countries? Or are they not being allowed back into those countries? Why would they stay in the USA if they have no future; no one will hire them, they can't get housing, welfare, medicaid, etc? What makes them stay here?
