They kind of twist the reality of War around to match their own needs. Like with the Vietnam War which was lost because America could not overcome the North Vietnamese struggle to unite Vietnam into one Country.
Americans who mix up patriotism with good intentions are clouding the issue by claiming that we could have won the war if we had fought it harder of longer don't realize that winning that war was as bad an idea as winning the Iraq War is a bad idea. There is nothing to win in either case.
The simplicity of this thinking along with the bankruptcy of good sense and good intentions set American up to become a monster Nation in the eyes of the rest of the world and in the eyes of many North Americans.
Look at Vietnam now. They are begging us to allow them to win favored Nations because they so despairity need trade to grow their economic activity in Vietnam.
Those who thought we should have killed everyone over their in Vietnam to win the unwinnable war refuse to see that despite all the hand ringing about leaving the Vietnam War and getting out of it before the job was done, the Vietnam we left has not been a bad playing in their part on the world for 30 plus years. Their was no domino effect. America did not lose face for very long because everybody figured it was a bad idea from the very beginning of the Vietnam war.
The Iraq War was also a bad idea, and it still is a bad idea. War is not something we should get into if there is anyway to avoid it, last and final thing should be to go to war, and the idea of preemtive war is not only stupid for breaking our traditions and obviously a bad idea in terms of money and young soldiers.
We did not lose in Korea, but we did not win either. So no, the wars we have won have been well fought like Bosnia and the First War of the Persian Gulf.

Your question is a bit confusing. But, here goes...
Americans have generally won the wars we have fought in...whether because we were attacked (Pearl Harbor and 9/11) or , the wars where we felt threatened (Spanish American War, Iraqi Freedom), the wars where we fought to assist our allies (WW1 & WW2) or, the wars where we fought to preserve our constitution (The Civil War).

America always take pride that they always win in every war that they participated in just like was happened in Vietnam by portraying in movies like Rambo that they won the war psychologically. It is happening the in the same situation in Iraq nowadays.
