Conservatives argue that welfare programs like TANF make people dependent, and we need to give them limited time or no support in order to make them stand on their own two feet.

We've now been in Iraq longer than we were in WW2. Isn't an open-ended committment there bad, by the conservative logic given above?

re going to arrest you for ---- or you'll be recieving a ---- in the mail for breaking the law...... they never made me aware of any reason why i should have been concerned with having a warrent for my arrest put out on my person 5 months later. due to a routine traffic stop i was arrested unknowingly for this warrent that was issued may be less than 2 weeks prior to the stop. A warrent for obstructing justice on the date of my partners arrest ( 5 months prior) is this legal? can i fight it ? what can i do?

You didn't like my last proposal, called me a red-neck although, yo hecho en mexico. Hablamos espanol, and have lived in a corrupt 3rd world country... I live in a border state and the community I live in is at the very least 1/3 illegal! I teach ESOL classes and have supported fair treatment for undocumented PEOPLE.
So how about this. Evict or imprison all illegal immigrants, throw all of their employers in prison, keep all of their babies and children that were born here in the US and put them up for adoption, because they are citizens and build another "Great Wall" and bury it 45' down with concrete and rebar to prevent tunneling. And last but not least, give all of the 'Red necks' all the beer they can drink and make it open season.... Now I sound like a Republican?

(Oct. 27) - "What happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas." Right? Not if you're a politician running for the highest office in the state.

That's what Republican Rep. Jim Gibbons, who is campaigning for governor of Nevada, has learned.

For Gibbons, Friday the 13th proved an unlucky day. That was the day when Gibbons and his campaign adviser stopped by McCormick and Schmick's restaurant to get out of the rain and down a nightcap or two.

Somehow the two of them ended up at a table with a couple of women who were later joined by two other women, Chrissy Mazzeo and her friend Penny Puhek.

Mazzeo said she called Las Vegas police later that night and told them that Gibbons forced her up against the wall of a parking garage and threatened her after he'd made unwanted advances over drinks earlier in the restaurant bar.

The two also disagree over how much each imbibed on the evening in question. Both have claimed they each had only a couple glasses wine, etc. etc.,...

I've always seen different patterns of flashing lights on police cars. I'm wondering if there is a standard message that the light patterns convey depending on the situation the vehicle is responding to. Does anyone know?

I live in the State of Washington.
