-advertise in every possible way you can afford- get on the radio, put out flyers, post ads in the local newspaper- and hold a benefit dinner and silent auction. You will need to work fast to assemble volunteers to help. Approach local businesses and artisans for items to donate, and describe the quality of the auction items in your advertising. Involve your regioanl culture. See if you can find a story-teller to perform. Charge a cover for the dinner, and make it something that you can make a profit off of, that people will be willing to pay. Say $10-12 a head, children and seniors 1/2 price, for a spaghetti dinner at the local fire hall. Have the fire hall staff assist, and advertise it as assisitng a retired veteran. Perhaps a church group or scholl group would be willing to help? for something like, think creatively, and get the entire community involved. Be shameless- solicit donations from folks who do not want to attend. Get the word out through a letter you post at workplaces, churches, etc.

I wish you luck. This family is very fortunate to have someone like you who cares so much. You could also try sending a letter to the local governement (mayor, city hall) for a stay on the foreclosure. I would not count on ti, though, and would proactively get the word out as your primary means.

Start by Contacting Local churches. They may be able to help you organize a Fund raiser. Also Contact your Local Radio stations and Newspaper. Your working with very little time so your gonna Need Help with Free advertising. You can try Bake sales, lottery tickets < you can buy tickets that corrispond with the daily number and sell them and get 50% of the money> Providing that is your state has a lottery. If your in the south and it's not to cold you might try Car washes. Possibly get friends and family to donate Unwanted items for a Giant Yard Sale Add with that selling Soda, cookies, baked goods. See if you might get an Item and have the Local radio station raffle it off. I've heard of Tickle Me Elmo dolls selling for Hundreds of dollars on Radio auctions for a good cause. Also you might wanna contact the bank or loan agency that is doing the foreclosure. Explain your battle plan and you intentions of attempting to raise the money. They Might give you a little more time. It makes for BAD Public relations to foreclose on a family in times of a tradgedy. I Personally applaud your efforts and I hope some of these will help you reach and or surpass your goals. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU Shy

Get the media involved. Call a local television station and ask to have a story done on the family. Set up an account at a local bank and ask for donations. Better be legitimate though.
