I've heard people defend the new law which suspends habeas corpus. The only argument I've heard is that it is for our safety and it doesn't matter as long as you aren't a terrorist. I've heard, as long as you aren't a terrorists, then it doesn't effet you. But couldn't this apply to any civil rights they take away? If they made a law saying they would arrest anyone who used anti-American speech. It would be your right to free speech being taken away, but you would say "as long as you aren't anti-American, it doesn't effect you." And if they took away the right to bear arms to anyone who they considered against America. So in the end, you arrest anyone who doesn't agree with you, and this is not what America is about. I would like to see another argument in support of Habeas Corpus. I can understand if your agrument is that it makes us safer, but then please admit that it is at the cost of our liberties.

Last Year sometime, 1 of the top 3 National News Stations asked some Congress Members what they thought the average American income was for the Middle Class and the anwser was between $225 Thousand and $375 thousand.
Which idiot's in Congress said this and which News Media asked the question? I know it happened but can't find any info now. Is Congress that far out of touch with the American Public?

Mexican police find woman's body near border

Associated Press

NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico - Police in northern Mexico said they discovered the body of an unidentified woman who was beaten, raped and apparently shot to death near a shallow stretch of the Rio Grande favored by migrants for illegal crossings into the United States.

Investigator Oscar Sepulveda said the 20-year-old woman's remains were found Saturday evening in the trunk of an abandoned car near a sewage treatment plant about 500 yards from the river, which forms the border between Mexico and the U.S. state of Texas.

In addition to being raped, the victim showed signs of being beaten in the head and chest, and there was also evidence she died from at least one gunshot wound, Sepulveda said.

No arrests were made, and investigators had not determined a motive.

So far this year, 155 people have been killed in Nuevo Laredo, across the border from Laredo, Texas. At least 30 were women or children under 16, police say.

The victim was discovered along a shallow part of river that is often used as a crossing by migrants, especially women and children.

Have things spun so much out of control in Iraq(43 deaths every day) that there is no center to hold? Are we trying to prop up a corpse? Bush said today that he is a patient man. Patient or just blindly stubborn?

What is the purpose of the justice system? It's usually symbolised by the balanced scales of justice. Justice is for the victim as well as the defendant. Justice is about fairness. Is part of that not allowing fair vengeance for the victim?

How come many accept driving offences, like drink driving and speeding, are best fought by zero tolerance and severe punishments, yet people argue that more severe crimes are not reduced by punishments?

The justice system is not about certainty, it's about being beyond all reasonable doubt. Should we let 100 murderers go rather than convict one innocent person. Are we sure there is the certainty in the system for us ever to make that choice. It's more down to how rich you are and how good a lawyer you can afford.

I hear that with at least a quarter of million dollars, you can buy your way out of a military contract and get out of the military. Anyone know anything about this, or where to get information on it?

this question is directed toward those who support capital punishment, if you dont then youre answer is automatically no. guy in ohio is a cult leader who received the death sentence for killing a family. the family of five "which included three children, were killed while they stood in a pit dug inside his barn in northeast Ohio."
so they want to give him the death penalty, but the guy claims he is *too fat* and that the execution would be too painful. it would be carried out by lethal injection by the way. he also claims to be diabetic, which i think is irrelavent.
should they punch his ticket or let him go with a life sentence?

America was attacked by terrorists, either those in this current Bush regime or by those he blames, al Qaida.

What we do know is that Condi Rice was handed many red flags, and knew about the attacks that were iminent, but she either chose not to act on the threats or she simply has a very poor memory and forgot about them.

Bush was briefed several times about these threats, and he did nothing but read to little children. Gee - I wonder is he can actually read those little golden books. We all know he can't read a newspaper.

On 9/11/01 America got attacked, again with our pants down, but why was the entire Bush regime asleep at the wheel as well?

Could it be that the vast majority of the facts have been lost in yet another one of the Republicans infamous cover-ups?
