Let's say you need to use to refer to all "insular areas" of the United States on a website, but don't expect anyone to know what an insular area actually is. The official definition from the Department of the Interior's Office of Insular Affairs is:

"A jurisdiction that is neither a part of one of the several States nor a Federal district. This is the current generic term to refer to any commonwealth, freely associated state, possession or territory or Territory and from July 18, 1947, until October 1, 1994, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands." (http://www.doi.gov/oia/FAQ/faq2.htm)

So, "insular area" is really too unknown, and "commonwealth, freely associated state, possession or territory or Territory" is just too long. Is there any casual middle ground?

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — A man was arrested in the gruesome dragging death of a woman after a stained and tattered photograph of him was found at the crime scene, police said Wednesday.

Jose Luis Rubi-Nava, 36, was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of murder and jailed without bail. Investigators said they were still trying to identify the victim, who was dragged behind a vehicle with a rope, leaving a trail of blood more than a mile long.

Authorities did not immediately respond to questions about how the photograph ended up near the woman's body, which was discovered Monday in a suburban neighborhood about 20 miles south of Denver.

The photo had been released to the public, and Sheriff Dave Weaver said tips from citizens helped lead to the arrest, but he did not elaborate.

Weaver offered no motive for the killing.

The picture shows a couple who appear to be in their 30s, with the man leaning his arm on the woman's shoulder. Investigators did not say whether the woman in the picture was the victim.

Woman Dragged Behind Car in Denver, Leaving Mile-Long Blood Trail Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Carl Rusnok said agents believe Rubi-Nava is an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

Neighbors discovered the woman's body before dawn. Her face was unrecognizable and an orange tow rope was around her neck, said Nancy Foley, who lives nearby.

An autopsy indicated the woman died of asphyxiation and head injuries from being dragged.

The trail of blood led from Interstate 25 to the woman's body, which was found on a street lined with large ranch-style homes on spacious lots. On Wednesday, highway crews spreading fresh tar over the roads to cover the traces of blood.

to have a rally set up with tables and signs and people yelling at you on your way to class but its not allowed for pro-choice activists to be able to do the same thing? This seems like discrimination. If one side can let their voice be heard then why can't the other side? Why not just ban both sides? I'm not saying I'm for or against abortion, I just don't think its right to only allow 1 side of a debate but forbid the other side.

Does this happen at everyone elses colleges too? BTW, it is NOT a Christian University. It is a public University.

In our medium sized town our local city fathers recently decided to re-pave the main street in front of their brand new government center building (it cost tax payers 45 million) the re-paving of the road cost 12 million, it was just re-paved 2 years ago and was prefectly fine. Many of us residence wondered out loud and some wrote letters to the editor asking why should we pay again to re-pave the road...after much hand ringing they finally said: If we didn't use those funds we would lose those dollars next year...WHAT an OUTRAGE! So they waste 12 million of OUR money...so their budgets wouldn't be cut by the state and federal governments. Folks... this is why America is in DEBT trillions of dollars. Now mulitply this by 100's of town and cities across this country. It would not take a brilliant person to FIX this wasteful spending by these bureacrats...

okay....that's my rant....Tell me where I'm wrong!
