I was born in 1951 so I can remember the feeling at the time. Actually they were considered to be a fantastic improvement on the 100 year old slums that people were being moved out of. It was totally new to have central heating, double glazing, bathrooms and inside toilets. People thought of themselves as ultra modern, moving into skyscraper blocks.

Try looking at some of the cars of the 1960's and 70's. A Vauxhall Victor, Ford Anglia (as seen in Harry Potter), a Humber Super Snipe. All considered state of the art back then but now just ugly scrap metal. Peoples perceptions change with time. Try looking at the old James Bond movies with Sean Connery. The clothes and furniture in those, considered the height of chic at the time, look like cheap rubish by todays standards.

By todays standards I think you are right, but back then people didn't have the benefit of comparing to a more prosperous era.

It's all design - prefab buildings for a quick rebuild post-war.

If you want a fascinating story, the Crescents in Hulme, Manchester were legendary. The blocks were built in semi-circles to create a communal spirit; it ended up just containing and condensing the crime. They knocked 'em down a decade ago.

Oh, and the LSD buildings in Salford, from the air the flats spelled out the letters LSD... that was one happy architect!

i myself am a Catholic, and that i've got continuously discovered the church homes we could desire to continuously be extra inviting than the others. of course, considering i've got been a member of the religion my entire existence, I clearly have some bias. I even have been to different church homes besides, and from my adventure, they have an inclination to be somewhat extra modern in layout, while the Catholic church has a tendency to be lots extra classic interior the layout. i've got individually observed that Protestant church homes look to frown upon adorning the church too lots. perhaps it extremely is something with to do with questioning it extremely is "decadent" or something.
