By thier own admission, L.A. security officers are under trained. Costs, accountability, and who should train are part of what is holding up the City Council on voting how to make L.A. safe and secure in the event of a disaster. Arguments between BOMA, SEIU, LAANE, and big building owners can't seem to come to an agreement on who should be responsible. It's been five years since 9-11. and here L.A. sits open to a catastrophe without properly trained personnel. When will we get an answer as to who will take charge of making the city of L.A. safe against disasters, natural or otherwise?

The U.S. military in Iraq has imprisoned an Associated Press photographer for five months, accusing him of being a security threat but never filing charges or permitting a public hearing. Is this the republican way? Is this the American way?

Military officials said Bilal Hussein, an Iraqi citizen, was being held for "imperative reasons of security" under United Nations resolutions. AP executives said the news cooperative's review of Hussein's work did not find anything to indicate inappropriate contact with insurgents, and any evidence against him should be brought to the Iraqi criminal justice system.

Hussein, 35, is a native of Fallujah who began work for the AP in September 2004. He photographed events in Fallujah and Ramadi until he was detained on April 12 of this year. The USA and President Bush stated they have no comment about the Photographer. Bush stated he doesn't care about human rights.

I had a felony shoplifting charge that was dropped to a misdemeanor back in the 90's. I was offered a misdemeanor 6 months county jail term. My Public Defender told me to take the case to felony court to see what they offered. They went up in time to one year and I had to fight to get it down to six months. It ended up a felony conviction. I found out I could have fired my lawyer and got the original misdemeanor deal I was offered but my Public Defender never told me. I didn't know my rights. Now I am a convicted felon for stealing a leather jacket. I can't own a gun. Is there any way I can overturn this into a misdemeanor so I can own a gun and not be a felon because of a malicious lawyer?

U.S. war prisons legal vacuum for 14,000 By PATRICK QUINN, AP news.
BAGHDAD, Iraq - In the few short years since the first shackled Afghan shuffled off to Guantanamo, the U.S. military has created a global network of overseas prisons, its islands of high security keeping 14,000 detainees beyond the reach of established law.

Disclosures of torture and long-term arbitrary detentions have won rebuke from leading voices including the U.N. secretary-general and the U.S. Supreme Court. But the bitterest words come from inside the system, From the American people. We are worse than the Insurgents.
"It was hard to believe I'd get out," Baghdad shopkeeper Amjad Qassim al-Aliyawi told The Associated Press after his release — without charge — last month. "I lived with the Americans for one year and eight months as if I was living in hell."

Captured on battlefields, pulled from beds at midnight, grabbed off streets as suspected insurgents, the USA has turned into a terrorist nation.
