the producers wanted the new movie to do well overseas, so they did away with all the flag waving patriotic spectacles that was associated with superman for so many years. The producers thought that all the europeans and others wouldnt like to see the american flag since most of them despise it. So they said screw you to the Americans and said hello to some euros and rubles.
But to answer your question, the American way is truth, justice, and liberty. All the ideals of our founding fathers, and of course patriotism, since this is the greatest nation on the Earth.
