When Iraqi complaints of disproportionate firepower levelled at Iraqi cities and civilians surfaced in global media, the US military response was that "insurgents" had hidden among the civilian population.

US media, especially in the case of Fallujah, referred to Iraqi cities where fighting against occupation troops had erupted as "strongholds". The most popular definition for this term alludes to a militarised area akin to a fortress, populated by military or militia-affiliated personnel. The civilian component is therefore removed from the collective psyche.

Canada is rich in resources (it also sells more Oil to the U.S. than any other country), already its biggest trading partner (Ontario alone is doing more than Japan) and has no military to stop the U.S.. It's the second biggest country on earth yet only has 1/10 of the U.S. population.
Who would and especially who could stop the U.S. ?
In the longterm......

The brave Marine was shot while he was on patrol. He got hit in the chest and he went down but managed to stand again. He looked down at the blood pouring out of his chest and he said to his Marine brothers: "I'm proud to be dying for the Iraqi Government that Bush allowed to be formed.....I'm proud to be bleeding red due the the USA flag having red in it. And to my best friend and one of the best Marines anywhere I give you my fine girlfriend. Her number is in my pocket so when I die in the next few minutes get it and call her and in memory of my death please go and see her and tell her I pass my love on to her through you. She likes it hard and to be tied up so have fun. And now it is getting dark and it's time to get ready to die and be buried so I will say Fare well". With that the wounded Marine stood up straight and gave a salute and then his eyes rolled back in his head and he fell dead. The Marine is being buried today in Walled Lake Michigan. His friend bought some rope......

Israel claims it's justified in bombing civilians because Hezbollah mingles with them. In fact, the militant group doesn't trust its civilians and stays as far away from them as possible.

Throughout this now 16-day-old war, Israeli planes high above civilian areas make decisions on what to bomb. They send huge bombs capable of killing things for hundreds of meters around those targets to destroy them, and then blame the inevitable civilian deaths -- the Lebanese government says 600 civilians have been killed so far -- on "terrorists" who callously use the civilian infrastructure for protection.

Look back into your Ancestry! Your family wasn't just plopped onto U.S. soil, they came here! They traveled here from Spain, England, France, Germany, Canada, Asia, India, Africa, Mexico, etc... If you want to stop illegal immigration, do it. But STOP being so damn racist! Do you even hear what comes out of your mouth sometimes? What would your ancestors say if they heard you?

What would the U.S. be without these immigrants!? >> Gloria Estefan, Michael J. Fox, Andy Garcia, Bob Hope, Angela Lansbury, Carlos Santana, Arnold Schwarzenegger (GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA), William Shatner, Gene Simmons (KISS), Elizabeth Taylor, Alex Trebek (JEAPORDY), Eddie Van Halen, Neil Young, Madeleine Albright, Oscar de la Renta, Sammy Sosa, Albert Einstein, Bela Lugosi, John Muir, and others...

Had they not had a chance to come to America & better themselves, who would they be? Do you even think we would be America without immigrants? Would be as succesful as we are today? Think about that!

I've tried watching and reading the news as well as listening to talk radio on a regular basis. The problem is that my synapses aren't firing on the subject of politics fast enough for me to be able to string all of the information together to form my own coherent picture of the world. Figuratively, I feel that I am drowning in a sea of scattered bits of information.

The above could be because I view the knowledge of politics in our day and age merely as a "necessity" and were it not so, I would not care to know anything about the subject at all. Politicians jade me & the whole subject seems quite depressing.

That said, how can a person like me, who also likes to learn every issue from all sides (not just one), gain a working knowledge of world politics from the ground floor? Are there any "novice-friendly" websites that explain things a bit more than the typical sites do? Do you have any other ideas?

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful answers!

I hear his supporters still think Saddam/Iraq had something to do with 9-11 (which they did not - Osama hates Saddam as much as we do if not more).
Is being charmed by lying psychopaths and a desire to be utterly misled and lied to a pre-requisite to being a Republican?

Not that there is any possible reason anyone would want to align themselves with that party of abysmal failure anymore (unless you of course fit into the prior category of the willingly stupid/misled/ignorant)

Also,
Can anyone explain why the Republican party hates America so much? Such widespread deceit and ignorance is flat-out only to the detriment of the country.

If so, read this and explain to me how this is good for the working class.

A provision in GOP-written minimum wage legislation passed by the House and under consideration this week by the Senate would deal a pay cut of $3 or more an hour to thousands of waiters, bellhops and hairdressers.

Why, you may ask? Because they recieve tip money. According to the GOP, you the customer should pay these employees, not their employer. Sounds like another GOP "protect the business owner" tactic to me.

Definition: Anti-Semitism (alternatively spelled antisemitism) is hostility towards or prejudice against Jews (not, in common usage, Semites in general).

Why is there such a word? why don't we have antiNative Americans, antieuropeans, antianglos, antiidians, antichristians, antiatheists, antiitalians or any other anti- whatever. There is opposition to all of these and many more, why don't we have antipalestinian?

Is this a matter of selfagrandation in order to label anybody that is against this particular group of people?
