I've had 4 hamster and none have lived longer than 3 months. I can't figure out what it is. The one's I have had, lived in "hamster mansions" with all the tubes and little rooms and everything, so there was lot's of room for them. I gave them the proper food, and proper water. I was sure I looked after them, but they all died. My first one died within the first month of having it. I always completely cleaned the cage before I got another one after one died, and I even got a new one when I bought another hamster after the third one died.

I thought it may be the heating or A/C being too high for them, but I don't see how that could affect them that much. I have always got them from the same pet store (except the 4th one) so maybe that has something to do with it?

I have a neighbor who has two huge, gorgeous german sheppard dogs, and a third one who is there alot that belongs to his gf...They are beautiful, intelligent dogs, which is more then i can say for the owner, he has had these dogs for a couple years maybe 3 and weve had no REAL problems but lately they have been coming over and killing my rabbits..they have killed 7 so far and tore up a couple pens, I have checked with law enforcement and i do have the legal right to shoot the dogs but i do NOT want to do this its not the dogs fault its going on as the owner is putting them in danger, i have called him SEVERAL times and asked him to contain his dogs only at night... i never asked him to pen them up all the time they dont bother anything of a day and i dont care if they are around then. The sheriff has spoken with him and he has paid for one of the rabbits ( my purebred brittish giant female) I have tried and tried to get him to keep them home at night to no avail...

I want to make something for everyone at the barn (actually, their horses) and thought bran mash would be a neat gift. How do I make a dry form that they just need to add hot water? Every recipe I found adds hot water almost immediately. Otherwise, any good horse treat recipes?? I need ingredients you can get at a local grocery store (can you buy bran there??)
Any help would be great. Whatever idea I go with will get the 10 points, but every usable suggestion will at least get a thumbs up!

It doesn't take man very long to decipher a new language. I imagine that if someone sat down with a control group of cats, one could eventually crack the code of their language, or at least catch bits and pieces of it...

Maybe it's because different cats make different noises to represent different things?

I have two laying hens... and since I'm new at raising chickens, I thought I'd ask about proper feed for them. I feed my cats & dogs extremely high end food (Canidae, Felidae) as I know that typical commercial food has all sorts of nasty stuff in it. I would assume the same applies to chicken feed. What do I look for to ensure my hens are getting the best quality diet? Is corn okay as the first ingredient? Is there a better source of calcium than oyster shell?? Thanks!

I am 14, I have 2 outside cats, 1 outside dog, 1 outside rabbit, and an inside hamster. I would like another inside pet, but I can't have a dog because my mom doesn't like me having a dog in the house. I was going to get a ferret, but I don't think my house is suitable. So now I don't know what to get. I am responsible, I'm just not sure. And I can't have a cat or rabbit inside, because I am allergic to them.

I have 2 dwarf hamsters, I have had both of them for a year now and to be honest they bring no joy to my life, they always bite me and one of them even draws blood. Some websites suggest handling them everyday but when I do I get bitten reapitivley and it hurts too bad to endure. I can't give them away because it would break my heart but they are so mean! Also they are lazy any way to get them more active? The one doesn't even burrow so I have to constantly clip his nails!

I have been pet mindng a lot lately and I can't decide.

In many instances it seems pets I have looked after accept me as the new owner but maybe they are only living in the here and now.

How do they know if their human family is coming back to them?
They see the suitcases, the hurried goodbyes and the car disappear along the driveway and on to the open road.

For the first few days they watch for their return then this behaviour disapears and maybe they accept what they perceive as the inevitable.

Can pets possibly understand the human concept of holidays?
