I have 2 dwarf hamsters, I have had both of them for a year now and to be honest they bring no joy to my life, they always bite me and one of them even draws blood. Some websites suggest handling them everyday but when I do I get bitten reapitivley and it hurts too bad to endure. I can't give them away because it would break my heart but they are so mean! Also they are lazy any way to get them more active? The one doesn't even burrow so I have to constantly clip his nails!

The solution is handling them a lot so they get used to being handled by humans. How? make them get tired of biting you. Get a good pair of gloves when you handle them, really thick ones from like a hardware store or such. Eventually they'll learn that bitting you will not make you let go of them and they will stop doing so.

About being more active, you can always buy those balls for hamsters and let them roam around so that they more activities outside the cage. Hopefully eventualy they'll become more agile and do more, once you are able to play with them too without being bitten.

Good luck!

well if you just got these hamsters you need to spend some time with ithem so that they become accustomed to you, hamsters will bite untill you tame them... dont try and hold them just yet...pet them often (a few times a day), approach them slowly so they dont get startled...within a week you should be able to pick them up...but never place your fingers directly up to its mouth it may think its food...it terms exercising them an exercise wheel is teh best thing for hamsters!..but dont get one that is either made of solid plastic of fine wire mesh, dwarf hamsters can easily get their little feet stuck in bigger rungs
