Any ideas on cooling down chickens in the heat? Or are they OK with it? They did survive the 114 degree week we had but it must have been miserable.

I live in Los Angeles so not like we have many chicken farms around to get info from...nor have we had this kind of heat in 100+ years.

I can put ice with the rabbit/guinea and bring them inside, ice with the squirrels and bring them inside, but the chickens must stay outside and I can't catch them (until evening when its cool anyway) or put ice out for them. I've put ice in the water and turn the sprinklers on a couple times during the day (but the chickens tend to run and no go in the sprinklers). Any other ideas for keeping chickens cool in the heat?

There are far to many idiot's with pets for my liking.
Breeding them (dogs & cats) when they know nothing about what they are doing.
And there are already far to many animals in rescue needing good homes.
Sorry to go on but this subject really gets to me.
Who thinks we should bring back licences for pets?
Thanks

I recently moved to the country and would like to get a horse. I have very little experience with horses; I started taking riding lessons 3 months ago from a private family who also breeds horses. They have taught me alot, but I'd like to get more experience. An ideal situation would be to find someone who would take me into their tutilage, maybe a stable owner or a trainer, and let me work with them part-time so I can get some experience. I would be willing to work for little or no money. I live in a small community and I don't know very many people. No one seems to advertise in the yellow pages or on the internet, so I'm not sure how to find someone who would be willing to try this kind of arrangement. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can become more experienced with working with horses, before I jump into getting my own?
