goats are easy to raise and keep healthy if you follow a few simple rules * raise them from newborn on their mothers milk but MILK THE DOE AND FEED THE KID WITH A BOTTLE othewise you can never wean a goat. a yearling willtake all the milk and starve a younger kid to death. *get a vettraneran to disbud kids at three to ten days old this is VERY importent as there is no need to allow them a weapon to fight with and don,t worry about hurting them they are very tough. if you intend to keep a male kid, then by all means have it altered or some peoplesay neutered. you are jusk asking for trouble keeping a buck goat on the premises,* vaxcinate for goat diseases and* keep the barn clean some african pigmy goats give a great deal of very good milk goats are compatible with horses, in fact some horse breeders keep goats believing goats keep horses calm and less steressed out . african pigmy goats are more likely to have three or more kids than togs, alps nubes or sanens are

In general they do. My big ole horse is best buds with my pygmy. All you have to take into consideration is if they have horns. They can easily harm other animals if they do have them because they are so small they have easy access to vunerable areas.
They are simple to raise as long as you have all the necessary vaccines, wormer, room, shelter, feed, etc... They are cheaper to care for than a horse. But if you raise them, beware that if you don't want horns you will have to dehorn them, by either 3 ways:
hot iron when they are a few weeks old
banding the horns when they are sprouting
some liquid that is HARMFUL to other goats if put on another area other than the horn area
Hot iron is the easiest and fastest and some consider most humane. I use that and the bands, they are castrating bands. They can get along with dogs very well, normally if raise with them. I have mixed reviews in my herd. Some love my dog and others want to tear her apart. So be wary.
There are other breeds other than pygmies. If you plan on getting a pygmy buck, they will reek ALL YEAR LONG. Other breeds don't smell nearly as bad. I know, I've raised both.
It all depends on whether you want crosses or fullbloodeds and registrable goats, or you just want your own little private herd.
Some horses also hate goats or just love to pick on them. Take that into mind as well. Mine had an escape route if my other horse was after him and my big boy wasn't around to protect his buddy.
If you want to just sell the extra kids then try to pick a breed that is common and easy to sell in your area. Hope this helps

yes they are very ez to raise. i have 6. they just need a large space to roam around in and eat grass and hay. also goat feed in the morning and night. they do get along with horses but we dont have ours in the same pen as them so i dont know how that would work. also u need a small sheed to keep the goats in a night because of wolfs and other animals. if u put llamas in with the goats u dont have to put the goats in the sheed but i would still at least get one as shelter so they can go in and out. we have 2 llamas with our 6 goats and had NO problems. good luck. if u have more questions ill be happy to answer. my email is

i used to have some and they are easy to tale care of. they are no more work then horses. and to answer your second question yes they do get along with other animals. just make sure that your animals will get along with them. Most horses love any goats but it depends what other animals you have....just remember that if the horse gets along with it then the goat should get along with it as well.
hope i helped out...I'm not a professional though so don't swear by my answers lol.

I've raised pygmy and fainting goats for almost 20 years and have found that overall, they get along well with my horses. They typically do not get along with dogs, and dogs can easily kill them. They get along with my cows, too. Mine have several acres fenced in for them with kidding sheds and shelters, I do let a few in the herd out once in awhile to browse and trim down around my fence line. Just make sure they have protection from predators such as dogs and coyotes.

i have a toggenburg goat. soon to be getting another one. i have 2 horses that stay at my house ( we live in the country ). at first i got the goat to be friends with my horses. but she doesn't really like the horses. she will eat grass with them if they're by the house. but pretty much ignores them. my mare isn't too fond of the goat. then again my mare isn't fond of much of anything. but my gelding doesn't mind her. my friend has a pygmy. she is very nervous. they ussally get along with horses pretty well thoght. if u get one goat u have to get another one. they r herd animals.
