How long have you had her?

Food is usually a good friend-making tool for cavies. I feed mine bits of favorite veggies while they are out with me.

Mine hate to be held...are you talking about her sitting on your lap? Have her sit on your lap while you're watching TV or on the computer for awhile. Do it every day so she gets desensitized to her fear. Put a towel on your lap in case of accidents. A towel is also good because you can flip part of it over her - making her feel like she is in a little cave or something, seems to make them more secure.

I also brush my short haired cavies fur with a toothbrush, they like that.

Another thing to do is for you to sit on the bathroom floor (or another enclosed space) with a book and her on the floor. Just let her walk around, day after day. Put food right next to you. Eventually she will warm up.

One more thing, the more hidey holes she has in her cage, the more secure she will feel in general.

I've had a cavy for 2 years and she's still scared. She squeals whenever I try to approach her and carry her. However, her sister is bolder and will approach my hand when there's food.

Just accept it as a nature of the cavy and give her a nice dark house/ox to hide in.

Give her a shoe box with a hole in it or something to hide in. They need to have something in their cage's as a safe place where they can relax. After a while they'll stop using it as much, but when they're new, or new to a place, they need to be able to hide. good luck!

She might just need time to adjust to her home. Or perhaps she needs a place to hide and feel secure.
