The conflict started in February of 2003 in the Sudanese region of Darfur. Violence erupted when two major non-Arab rebel groups, the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) accused and attacked the Sudanese government of persecuting non-Arabs over Arabs. The government responded by arming local tribes to form an Arab militia, the Janjaweed. The Janjaweed has wreaked havoc upon the people of Darfur by savagely riding into villages, pillaging, raping, and killing. They have systematically burned and destroyed thousands of villages across the region, causing refugees to flee to Chad. And in the government’s plan to disarm the rebel faction groups, it has engaged itself in a wide-scale “ethnic-cleansing”, in which hundreds of thousands have been brutally murdered. Unfortunately, while innocent civilians are being killed, the Sudanese government continues to deny any connections with the Janjaweed and the killing sprees that have been conducted.

When people think about VT and how we should now take every precaution to stop school violence and shootings... do we remember this story from 2 years ago?

When a 15-year-old boy plots to shoot up his high school, whose fault is it? The school, of course.

Thanks to a tip, nobody was killed at Laguna Creek High School, near Sacramento. Two students were arrested. But the parents of a 15-year-old freshman who was arrested plan to sue the school district and the sheriff for $6 million, reports the Sacramento Bee. The family's lawyer said the kid really planned "suicide by cop," not a massacre targeting black students and others.

Im not trying to make any statement or anything because i just found it interesting, but what do you think about it?

Wasn't he just a person who just had it bad in life, that people never gave a chance to? I believe the kids who razzed him, made fun of him, belittled him were the real psychos! Of course, they will never be blamed for his reaction, by their actions. Can't we all just get along? Kids hated him for social problems. He did nothing to deserve that hate. He did snap from all that adversity, and it's sad.

Also, don't you think young victims of bullying are getting poor examples of how to deal with the problem? I mean they are getting ideas from what they see in media broadcasts. The Virginia Tech shooter appeared to admire the Columbine shooters. How can we stop all this madness? Are we going to have to homeschool our kids or have them take all their classes online?

Ok, I'm guilty of watching NBC's coverage...and was disgusted with their lame comment on how there was much consideration in deciding on airing the killer's video. My opinion is that it should not have been shown...just what the killer wanted and fuel for possible copycat killers. So what did NBC actually consider? Comments?

I feel kind of sorry for them. What happened to this kid? Was he over protected, abused or just crazy. It must be really difficult for a parent not only to loose a child but to have him or her be the cause of such a disaster!!!
My heart and prayers to the families of the victims. God gives them hope and peace!!!

I was bullied and made fun of constantly throughout the years that I was in school, so does that mean that I should've gone around shooting everyone who I was harassed by?

Cho Seung-Hui obviously wanted all of the media attention on him as if he were a martyr. Thanks to NBC airing that footage, that is exactly what he got. Opinions?

For those who are troubled, and in need of therapy, do you see how negative thoughts impact a person's actions? And can cause harm to innocent people? Do you see how a troubled person needs to stop blaming other people and thinking of revenge and payback for wrongs done to you? Do you see how it ecsalates to irrational behavior and the consequences of ignoring those who need help, when just the slightest bit of extra effort to get help can be so much more beneficial and life saving? I'm not trying to sound like I'm preaching, I have blamed others for things that have happened to me as well. But, the blaming and pointing fingers has to stop. I am just one person, trying to give back to those in need of a bit of hope in their lives. And I am hoping that just a little effort from myself, and anyone else willing, can change our attitudes towards one another, and make a difference. Let me know what you think, please no mean or nasty responses.

The public education system in the U.S is a "hell hole". Anything different or abnormal is feared and attacked.

V.A Tech shootings is another classic example of a loner getting fed-up with bullying and stereotyping and exploding into rage.

Society dictates that the "norm" is good and the "abnormal" is bad and therefore should be destroyed.

*If someone would have reached out to this kid, I'm sure none of this would have happen.

Hitler may be dead, physically, but his spirit is well alive in American society and thinking.

Instead of embracing individuality we fear someone who is different and we attack.

Instead of reaching out we shake our heads and walk away.

We preach conformity and control instead of transformity and freedom.

God help us all.

after the sickening and horrific killings of 32 people at virginia tech college, i am worried about the serious repercussions of this incident and of which this will impact on America's asian community. particuarly the koreans. i know that even though he wasn't chinese or japanese, he wasn't arab, white or black either. cho was a human being, but a mentally and psychologically deranged human being, who was ready to explode and who had total disregard towards human life. yes his actions have shocked, disgusted and angered us all, but it would be unjustified to lash out against koreans or asians for that matter, all because of what one evil person did. if you are american, i ask how has the incident affected the rest of the country and will the perception of koreans/asians be different to what it was previously?

btw, no offensive or derogatory answers please

I remember hearing that Cho used his cell phone in class to take pictures of other students.

If Cho was so isolated and lonely and if he really had no one to talk to, then why would he have a cell phone?

This makes me think that there might be some people out there who might have talked to him on the cell. Maybe they knew some of his intentions?

Also, I wonder if he ever talked to anybody online or looked at websites with people 'like him.'This is because he made statements that he did this for his 'children,' his 'brothers and sisters' and other people 'like him.' How did he know other people like him even existed? Maybe he was just referring to the Columbine shooters and other well known people like him. However, Cho mentioned that he was doing this for all the people and the future generations who were ridiculed/mistreated etc.

Do you think it's possible that he may have had some secret friends that he talked to who were like him (either on the cell or online)?

What kind of a country is America?!Look at the loss of innocent lives just for nothing, but no thanks to the stupids laws that allows just anybody to buy a gun across the counter! What are they afraid of that everybody are permitted to own a gun in thier houses,I mean this is bizaar!!This incindent is a wake up call for the laws to be re-written,the so-called powerfull groups that backs the ownerships of guns, should be brought to face justice, enough is enough, period!.

I do not understand why every one is blameing someone or some thing else on all the killings, the fault is Cho's and his alone. so why all this about the left and the right and every one else? I don't see it that way.

Our schools have to wise up. There are always going to be angry, mentally ill kids in our schools. Our students need to be prepared on how to respond to these emergencies!! These makeshift things (thank God) like holding a table against a door, just is not enough! There should be alarms set off as soon as the first shot is fired (hopefully before) doors should be shut and bolted, etc. There are ways to do this. We just have to be more creative!!
