There are at least two other countries which guarantee the right to bear arms: Switzerland and Israel. Yet neither one has ever seen one of her citizens go on a shooting rampage like we saw in Virginia this week. Why here? Are we as Americans more prone to violence than people from other countries?

I read on AOL news a small town ( I forget where) made it mandatory for adults without a criminal or mental record to own guns in 1980s. Ever since crime has been at a record low.
Should owning guns be mandatory. I know if i wanted to rob someone i would think twice if i knew they had a gun. What do you think???

The Virginia tech Massacre was by far the most deadly college or high school massacre in USA history.

I believe there are some sick people with a video game mentality who will see it as a challenge to try and kill more than 32 people.

Just looking for a silver lining here, folks. Since most college students, professors, and especially Holocost Survivors are Liberals, there is a good chance that Cho did not kill ANY future or current Republican voters. We may yet get the majority back! Hoooo-Ahhh!

Don't you think that the media is rewarding these people who do terrible things by giving them attention? Don't you think maybe these things would happen less if they didn't make news all the time? Consider Terrell Owens - he does all kinds of things for negative attention and every time he does something he makes news, which is why he does it. If it didn't get attention maybe he would find it wasn't helpful. But these people get to intimidate and they get notoriety, not the kind you would want, but they have this desire for attention and the media gives it to them. It's just like a kid who acts up if the parent makes a big stink, and if the parent ignores the kid, the kid goes and does something else and doesn't make a stink. These killers are just the same way.He did this to get attention. I don't think he should be rewarded in a sense by having his picture all over the news and videos showing him waving guns and all. He should be SHUNNED BY SOCIETY AND IGNORED. What do you think?

...the Beach Boys song? He has told those who don't like it to "get a life." Personally speaking, the prospect of Republicans starting a third war isn't at all funny to me. McCain was speaking to an audience of about 500 in South Carolina at a VFW hall on Wednesday morning when he suddenly burst into song. You can find the news story (with photograph) on The Drudge Report.

Can't people wake up and see that these killings weren't simply the senseless acts of confused lunatics?

There is some serious implications with these murders. Society has been glorifying the "jock mentality" for decades, since the baby boom started after WWII. Every American is phsycologically manipulated to believe that he/she is righteous, better, smarter, and more attractive than anybody else. So kids must prove their beliefs in the playground, to reaffirm what's been taught. This means that some kids get the short end of the stick and are forced to swallow all their false beliefs, and if they act out or act disdainful of the fact that they don't fit in, they are treated worse and treated as social outcasts or mentally unfit for society.
This will lead to murders people. I totally believe this. Is there anyone else out there that feels this, or has everyone bought in to the idea that only raving lunatics do these things?

Where were they while this guy's hostility for 'rich people' grew until it blossomed into so much hatred that he felt as though killing them and himself was the only way to solve anything.

What kind of parents were these that couldn't pick up the warning signs that their son was psycho even from high school?

Some college professors took the initiative and contacted the local authorities about his questionable mentality, but I didn't read that the parents did that!!!

How did they raise him?? I really want to know.

I saw parts of the video and it was so sad. He looked like an empty shell. There is pain everywhere. The victims families, school staff, survivors. Did these people deserve to die, NO! But when hearing that Cho was bullied in school and made fun of, do you know what that does to a child, any human being?! It kills their spirit. That is the problem that seems to be overlooked. He had no right to take someone elses life, but he was dead inside. Who killed him?

This quote was taken off of "http://www.collegemedia.com". I read this and thought it was very touching. Maybe we could all learn from this man. My heart and prayers go out to him.
""If we don't meet again, your final assignment from me is perhaps the most important lesson you will learn in life. Go to your mother, father, brothers and sisters and tell them with all your heart how much you love them. And tell them that you know how much they love you too. Go out of your way to make good memories... At some point these memories may be all you have left. May god bless you all, Bryan" - Professor Bryan Cloyd's email to his students. Cloyd's daughter, Austin died Monday."

I mean, now any other sicko out there is going to see how this guy got his 15 seconds of fame, and isn't this unusually cruel to the victims families to have to see this guy splashed all over the media? I just think maybe they should have used more discretion. I'm all for freedom of the press, but how about some morals over ratings? Shame on NBC.

Hi, I'm from England and i'd like to say first that this isn't out to offend anyone and I hope it doesn't... But since hearing about the awful VT shootings, i've noticed so many questions on here asking if this inncident will make us change our minds about Asians in general...And with respect I have to say, it's driving me mad.

Race/colour is a much much bigger issue in the US than the UK. And if this had happened over here instead, I doubt that many British people would be asking the same question.

I have to say the same about the whole Don Imus issue (Sorry if i got his name wrong, I'd never heard of him untill a couple of weeks ago and still don't really know who he is...). If Imus had been British, and that comment had been made in the UK, sure it would cause some fudes, but to be honest, no one would really care.

Why do you think there is such a difference between America and the UK when it comes to race?

A movie theater near me actually has a "no weapons" sign, as if everyone brings one. Gun control may sound good, but is it enough? For example, if guns were banned, angry or violent people might resort to strangling, punching, or kicking their victims.--That was one reason I was against knife bans on airplanes.--How would gun supporters react? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beltway_sniper_attacks

Today, i was watching the news and it seems that victims family members complained about NBC News showing the videos of Cho, showing picures and also talking about him.
They feel they have been through too much and dont want to see the killer on tv who killed the victims.

In my opinion, I think that we should know about this, so we can know what signs to look for in anyone who is on the verge of going on the warpath. I think this is very helpful for future reference, but i mean, if you dont want to watch anything about the shooter, why watch the news, if you know thats all they are going to be talking about the a very long time. I mean, if that happened to me, i wouldnt even be watching tv.

What about you guys, what do yall think about ceasing the video tapes, pictures, and talk about the shooter, just for them?even though, what will be told to us, will help us know what to look for if we ever come across anyone like Cho.
