Maybe when people stop being so selfish and self-centered, things like this will stop happening. How many times have you heard about a shooting, an the kid was bullied/picked on/a loner? This happens A LOT. If people stopped being so mean and hurtful and judgemental, then things like this wouldn't happen. So next time you see someone being picked on, stand up for him or her. Next time you see someone eating by themselves, go eat with them. If you are too selfish to do these things, then YOU are the crazy one.

way is that to be taken offensivly to anyone that may read this I am in that generation. People are becoming less and less concerned for others and their well-being. Sure, someone can sit there and say "I care about what happend at Virginia Tech", but can or will they really mean it when it is said? Even after learning the complete truth from every facet of the situation and still FEEL for everysingle person involved? If there was a world wide network such as this site and people with minds ready to be opened, leaving all preconvieved notions in the past. This would really have to be an intence experiance of patience and love but people would start to relearn how they view others and not get hung up on the bad but the beauty every living being posseses. This might be really hard for some to even grasp and for me it is mind boggling but with will there is always a way. I know I am willing to go that way and reconnect with people and love others for all the flaws and beauty they posses. I would take so much joy in a group like this because the growth would take place on either end of all connecting.

You are right, yet there are things that could have helped.
For instance, if the mental health data were included in the background check when somebody buys a gun. A person with severe mental illness (which was documented in this man's case) is not supposed to be sold a gun, but the seller had no way to know.
Also, it could help if it were easier to commit somebody for involuntary mental health treatment. It is extremely hard now, and this has resulted in many deaths besides this case.

i don't think the police or administration could have prevented it. i think not allowing people to buy semiautomatic weapons with clips holding more than 10 bullets would help give the targets a chance to fight back more effectively. we also need to increase mental health funding so that people will be held for the right amount of time when committed for evaluation and so that treatment is freely available without stigma.

How about the crazys who pick on kids in the school yard.

Or how about the crazys who didn't reach out to him but worried about themselves all the time.

The crazy part is we all had a hand in it.
The way we treat people will come back to haunt us or others.
