Yes, we need lots and lots more gun control laws so these shootings won't take place anymore.

It is NOT easy to get a gun in the US. You get registered at the Federal level, and many states require that you are a citizen of the country. Some states, like Virginia, allow Permanent Residents to get a gun. Keep in mind that a Permanent Resident has every constitutional right as the citizens, exept to vote. So he has the right to bear arms. Only the States can modify this right.
America is the greatest country in the world. It didn't become so because people were not allowed to have guns, like under Stalin.
We all know that the government holds a lot of power, and people appointed to lead the government are never perfect. They're politicians for crying out loud. There is trust in our government just as much as any other government, but people are not fools to think that something may never go wrong. This is a country built by free people, and if you ever change that, you lose the entire purpose of the Mayflower.
You protect yourself with the law to bear arms. If you stripp the common law man from defending himself, you'll end up with only criminals holding the weapons. Trust me they'll get them one way or another. Otherwise they wouldn't be criminals.

First of all, not just anyone can buy a gun in the US, if you have a felony conviction, you are not allowed to buy a gun, and if you are a minor, you cannot buy a gun. There are more ways to be disqualified from purchasing a gun, but I can't remember them all. Second, you can't just walk into the store, flop down your money and walk out with a gun, there's a waiting period and a background check. It would take more than just a law to ban guns in the US, it would take a constitutional amendment, one which surely would not pass.

I find this POS of a post ridiculous. I am speaking to all of you so called morons that call yourselves Americans and are agreeing with this crap. Go back to school and learn your history!!! The USA was founded by our ancestors to be a FREE country. "Free"...define this you ignorant people. The constitution defines what this country was founded on for reasons defined within it, to prevent any government or radical group to tell you how to live your lives. Freedom is the right to choose. Tell you people what if you don't like freedom then go live somewhere else. We Americans have the right to have and bare arms. This I will defend with my dieing breath. If you total backwards people don't agree well I have something for you to think about. What do you think the number one killer in America is??? It is NOT guns I will tell you that. Just because a scattered few people kill a some people with a gun does not mean guns kill people. Take away guns guess what something else becomes a weapon, be it a vehicle, ice pick or their bare hands.

Teddy, it's obvious you aren't an American citizen and therefore have no concept of just what something called the Constitution and Bill of RIGHTS represents. Let me tell you just a little; my forefathers fought the War of Revolution to become a FREE country. Many of my countrymen have given their lives in service to protect this country and the Rights of her citizens which pre-date the very existence of firearms.
As a former federally licensed gun dealer I can assure you that NOT JUST ANYBODY can walk into a gun shop and buy a gun across the counter. And remember, gun ownership IS an individual RIGHT even though there are many illegal, un-constitutional laws in effect in the US as I write this. Every firearm purchase through an FFL dealer is approved by BATFE prior to the weapon's change of possession to the buyer. Quit trying to blame a mechanical piece of equipment for the actions of the behavior of a human being. Do you blame the car when a drunk driver kills a bus load of kids? Or the bomb when a terrorist blows up a building? Please tell me the difference.

This country my friend is the home of the free gauranteed so by the Bill of Rights which provides for its citizens the right to bear arms. But not just anybody is allowed to own a firearm. In fact, most states including VA have legal processes that a merchant must abide by before selling a gun including online background checks with law enforcement officials. And if an individual doesn't have a criminal record, why shouldn't they be allowed to purchase a gun whether it be used to protect themselves or to use recreationally? There are only a few instances like Colombine or Virginia Tech - the majority of gun owners are responsible and don't kill people. I own 10 different types of firearms which I keep locked securely in a safe, and I can truthfully say, that more people have been killed by one of Ted Kennedy's cars than all of my guns combined. Is the VT incident a tragedy - yes it is, all loss of life is regrettable. Car accidents, suicides, drownings, etc. But the instruments of death - automobiles, nooses, heavy shoes and clothing aren't to blame ... people are. We must hold ourselves responsible for our acts and stop trying to blame our own barbarism on inanimate objects.

Point of fact; the massacre of 32 innocent people was against the law.
The bad guy didn't care. Would another law have convinced this psychopath that maybe he shouldn't randomly murder almost three dozen people?
If he hadn't used a gun he would have strapped a bomb to his chest or locked the doors and set the building on fire with gasoline. Should we outlaw backpacks and matches just in case some lunatic decides to go on a rampage?
Or would it make more sense to lock these animals up when it is determined that they are dangerous to the general public as the court did in this case in 2005. Instead they chose to do nothing for fear of violating his civil rights.
This isn't rocket science. If a person looks crazy, acts crazy, talks crazy and writes crazy... he's probably crazy.
Lock him up and try to help him. Don't turn him loose unsupervised and hope he somehow finds peace within.
We have gun laws up the gazoo in the U.S. and none of them stopped this. If you asked any one of the 32 victims if they would have rather had a Glock .40 or a cell phone to call their legislator that morning which do you think they would choose?

It's really not as simple to get a gun as you might think, and all of our 50 states have different laws. Most times it's not the good guys who get their guns legally who do the bad things. The young man who did the slaughter at VTech was obviously mentally ill, but he had not been convicted of violating any laws that would prohibit him from getting the guns. The USA is a free country and our founding fathers wanted to protect citizens rights to bear arms because they didn't have that right where they came from. Obviously, times have changed. People who want guns, legally or otherwise, will get them and do what they want to do. It's the evil that comes out of some.

Limiting gun access is not the best answer. This particular case I agree than this person should not have been able to buy a gun because he was not a American born citizen. But most of the shootings happen from normal people who get a hold of gun ILLEGALLY. What is your recommendation? demand psychological testing before getting a gun? Or just strip Americans of the constitutional right bear arms all together.

Not in Massachusetts. If Massachusetts is still part of America then buying a gun is near impossible. If you get caught with an unlicensed gun woe be unto you. Even if you get caught with a licensed gun be prepared to get dragged through court for over a year.

you cant just buy a gun over the counter...they do background checks...out of the millions of law abiding citizens who own guns only a few don't do what they are supposed to do... i have guns.(A-K.47.assault rifle....desert eagle..pistol....12guage pump.shotguns...)and a few assorted high powered rifles.. and they are registered with the authorities..it is the criminals who get guns illegal, they don't reg. there weapons...and if a criminal can carry a gun ,you can bet your sweet a.ss that i will have guns to protect myself and my family from these people.... its not the gun that's the problem, but the criminals themselves who threaten the lives of hard working honest people...they have the right to protect themselves...i would bet that most of the killings you read about..the killer has a gun illegally...maybe laws should be harsher on people who posses weapons illegally..im sure that where ever you live there is no crime...and im sure that the guy at VT didn't have a registered weapon..there is always going to be crazy people out there.(even where you live).and i approve of honest hard working people being able to own a weapon..to defend themselves...
