after the sickening and horrific killings of 32 people at virginia tech college, i am worried about the serious repercussions of this incident and of which this will impact on America's asian community. particuarly the koreans. i know that even though he wasn't chinese or japanese, he wasn't arab, white or black either. cho was a human being, but a mentally and psychologically deranged human being, who was ready to explode and who had total disregard towards human life. yes his actions have shocked, disgusted and angered us all, but it would be unjustified to lash out against koreans or asians for that matter, all because of what one evil person did. if you are american, i ask how has the incident affected the rest of the country and will the perception of koreans/asians be different to what it was previously?

btw, no offensive or derogatory answers please

No, it was not a matter of race, it was a matter of crazies! He didn't kill because he was out to get white, black, or otherwise. he was just nuts!
Our culture? What does that have to do with someone being crazy? He probably heard voices in his head, or the dog talked to him.

Will there be a backlash against Asians? Probably. Not as radical as the backlash against Middle-Easterners after September 11th, of course. The backlash I mean is making Koreans the butt of shoot-em-up jokes and it makes the Asian community to become the target of some comedians that base their acts on racial discrimination. However, there will be the few that will rant about their hatred towards Koreans because of this--not necessarily because they are outraged, but more out of the fear of something like this happening again. But these people need to realize that a person's ethnicity doesn't play a part in giving them mental instability as Seung Cho had.

I don't think that his ethnic origin had anything to do with what he did. I do think that it was all down to the fact that he was a "mentally and psychologically deranged human being who was ready to explode and who had total disregard towards human life" (Good explaination by the way!). I think if there is a backlash, it will be targetted at mentally ill people, which can have just as awful consequences as it would if it was directed at any ethnicity. Please try not to worry. People are pretty clued up on how this happened.

This is the fact that we have to take because of the changes of this world. Where there is a factor, there is its consequence. A happening actually leads to another next. Apparently, the culprit of this shooting, Cho was traumatized or haunted by his past memory that many schoolmates pushed, teased, bullied and laughed at him with the word starting with letter 'F'. Somehow, we would ignore and forget to attend this sort of person. Consequently, tragedy took place that has struck us and so was the shooting in Virginia Tech. Sometimes, I feel that American should not be vulgar nor rude as what they did to Cho....If American have been mild, gentle and caring, this would not have happened. This shooting is not related to racism or racial prejudice so please don't take it as racial war. Chill out and do not overreact, stirring up the unnecessary racism or discrimination. There used to be the similar cases of shootings in America but done by Americans themselves. Therefore, it's all about the lack of kindness of US, leading to all these tragedies. By the way, So far, guns and riffles are so accessible and approachable in US so that might be a reason. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY DUES, JUST BEHAVE YOURSELVES

You usually get backlash when people start to see an obvious pattern. Many people of Asian descent have lived in the United States for many years. With few exceptions these people are hard-working honest people.

Now when you talk about a specific group of people that frequently find themselves on the wrong side of an argument (say, the religion of peace) -- that's when you begin to see backlash.

No, why should people judge other people based on something that a person of their same race did? And by the way that person is mentally unstable and somehow needed to kill 32 innocent people before taking his own life!!!Anyways we don't have to forget that there are good and bad people in every race!!!

Well, there kinda already IS a backlash. People are boycotting asian restaurants, breaking the windows of asian-owned buisness, and yelling derogatory comments at asians on the streets near there.

have a nice day

well..after 911 there was a back lash against any one who wore a turbant and only the ignorant people showed that ind of behavior .. i think that we are more educated now and hopefuly not generalize... initially china had apologized after the speculation tht the killer was chinese..i dont think tht korea should.. this is the work of one individual with major mental problems... problems that many americans face.. we just need to try to try to identify those who seem to be walking time bombs to protect ourselves and those around us.

NO. The culprit was a mentally disturbed person. People in the USA will not backlash against his race. Yes he has angered most all of us but I not only say prayers for the victims, their families and friends but for his family who must be going thru hell right now.

I think there might be a bigger backlash against those experiencing mental problems. Cho didnt kill becuase he was korean, he killed becuase he wasn't right in the head
