When people think about VT and how we should now take every precaution to stop school violence and shootings... do we remember this story from 2 years ago?

When a 15-year-old boy plots to shoot up his high school, whose fault is it? The school, of course.

Thanks to a tip, nobody was killed at Laguna Creek High School, near Sacramento. Two students were arrested. But the parents of a 15-year-old freshman who was arrested plan to sue the school district and the sheriff for $6 million, reports the Sacramento Bee. The family's lawyer said the kid really planned "suicide by cop," not a massacre targeting black students and others.

Im not trying to make any statement or anything because i just found it interesting, but what do you think about it?

While I will agree that the schools have some responsibility, I cannot lay all of the blame at their feet.

The parents in all of these situations have a significant responsibility, in that they need to be aware of what's happening in the lives of their children, and they need to teach their children to love and accept others for who they are.

The kids at Columbine and this young man at VT were all teased, and were loners...Their parents should have been aware of what was going on with them, and found them help, before the situation got to the horrifying point that it did. In addition, the parents of the kids who were teasing them needed to be teaching their kids that teasing is not appropriate behavior for humans.

The schools have the responsibility to notify the parents when they see something going on...But the parents have the ultimate responsibility to ensure their own kids are growing up healthy and without prejudice.
