So me and my hubby are looking for a house. It has been a LONG process. Trying to find something we both like. Today we found a house in a good part of town close to downtown and everything. The house is on a cul-de-sac, but one that has houses really close to one another. The yard is fenced already and it has a nice sized front yard but the back yard is not huge but not small. So my ? is how big of a problem is this?? I can stand it. That is what privacy fences are for. But when and if we want to resale it in the future. Would we for some reason not be able to resale it??

A friend gave me a gift basket of soaps, candles and other stuff. It has a small (one ounce) bottle of transparent oil with herbs in it. Smells really good. I just don't know what it is for!
Thanks for your answers.

We are thinking of buying a house which is next to a river. We have eliminated flood as a risk - but what are the other hazards? We have small kids so we need to protect them. Are there any health issues? Building issues etc?

And....
Please don't send me to a bunch of links!

Our backyard is open with a line of trees and people walk their dogs or dogs get loose between the houses and have decided to use our backyard / side grassy areas as a convenient toilet. Are there products available (or natural remedies) that don't harm animals (like dogs, cats etc), but that they don't like the smell of, that will keep them off our garden?

I recently had several trees cut down and cut up the wood with a chain saw. I still have to split the wood and like the workout so I don't want to rent a log splitter. Which is better to split wood a maul or a sledge and a wedge? I need your input before I buy them.

What do they do really? Do they bite? What do they eat?? And how do you get rid of them without using harsh chemical sprays and such?

My wife & I keep having our garage lights shot out by a pellet gun. Every time I replace them, they are shot out within 1-2 months. This has happened 5 times now within one year. We keep reporting this to the police, but it doesn't help. I have a security camera that aims towards the driveway. But because it's recording through my window, the night vision doesn't work. Because I work 12 hour shifts at night, this is when it happens. The vandalism didn't occur until we built a new attached 3 car garage. The vandal isn't hitting the siding or anything else, just the 3 lights. They don't even bother with the two lights on the porch. Only the 3 car garage. I even installed a motion floodlight to help scare the vandal away. This didn't work either. We don't know what else to do & would welcome any advice to catch this person. Thank you for reading this posting.

I'm having a new refrigerator delivered and installed very soon. Part of the service is hooking it up and turning it on. I seem to remember reading somewhere that it is better to let the unit sit quietly after transporting it, BEFORE starting it up. something about letting bubbles in the refrigerant or something. Is this true? (I can wait if it is!)

NO I'm not trying to break in and enter. I accidentally closed the door to one of the rooms in my house, and the door got locked from the inside, and we don't have a key that opens that lock.

Anyone have any suggestions?

that there is a ghost living in one of my upstairs bedrooms in my house. Because at night there is always sound coming from the closet and my cat is always meowing during the night. Is it true animals pick up on that? I'm curious I want to know if there is a ghost up there. I know I sound dumb but I'm serious. My house was built in 1919 so I don't know. Where could I go to find the history of my house? Is it possible to find it online?

I was out of town for three weeks, so I filed USPS Change of Address forms for both my physical and PO box addresses. I indicated that the "move" was temporary. I received confirmation letters for both addresses with the correct start *and end* dates. I returned home today (Sunday), and I cannot access my PO box, because the lock has been changed. Furthermore, my physical address mail box (at an apartment complex) has a note from the letter carrier asking for "New tenant name." It seems that my temp forward has become permanent. Obviously I need to take this up with the local PO Monday morning, but I was wondering if anyone has had this happen, and if there is anything additional I can or should do. What if they have already re-rented my PO box to another customer? Also, I know I had mail in both my PO and physical boxes (other than junk mail), primarily periodicals, that I never received at my forwarding address. What happened to that mail? Thanks!

A year ago, we installed a washing machine that does not use hot water from the water heater. It's got a built-in heater.

Today, I need to replace the hot water tank and I need to know how to calculate the size I need in consideration of the fact that it is not used for laundry purposes. What is the equation? or do you know a site that would explain the different things to take into consideration?

No resale consideration here. This is our last house and we are just trying to make it as green and cheap to live in as possible.

Thanks

but I am not familiar with any brands other than Calphalon. Are there any serious cooks out there that can give me some kind of direction as to what to look for and what are the better brands? I am trying to stay away from "Nonstick".
