My wife & I keep having our garage lights shot out by a pellet gun. Every time I replace them, they are shot out within 1-2 months. This has happened 5 times now within one year. We keep reporting this to the police, but it doesn't help. I have a security camera that aims towards the driveway. But because it's recording through my window, the night vision doesn't work. Because I work 12 hour shifts at night, this is when it happens. The vandalism didn't occur until we built a new attached 3 car garage. The vandal isn't hitting the siding or anything else, just the 3 lights. They don't even bother with the two lights on the porch. Only the 3 car garage. I even installed a motion floodlight to help scare the vandal away. This didn't work either. We don't know what else to do & would welcome any advice to catch this person. Thank you for reading this posting.

Also, the 3 garage lights are turned off by 10:00 PM. So they are not disturbing anyone during sleeping hours.

Clearly the vandal is someone who is bothered by the lights; most likely at night when they are trying to sleep, or your new garage somehow blocks their view of something.

Who's house are the lights aimed towards or who's house is now blocked of a view by the new garage? That's probably your culprit.

Talk to the police and mention the issue and see if they can beef up patrols down your street.

Also consider hiring a security company to do a stake out.

Lastly see what kind of clear glass containers you could put over the lights that might be pellet-proof or pellet resistant.

When you say garage lights, are these just blazing away and lighting everything up all the time?
I would consider putting in a light with a metal dome cover that directed light downward and was generally not available to be shot at as the bulb would not be visually apparent.

Other than that, build a plex box or make a cover for your lite that has plex over it. They can bang away and not have effect. Might end it.

If you keep focusing on this, you will catch this person. It's just a matter of time. When you do, be prepared to go all the way the law will allow. Also, be aware that this kind of approach can piss people off even more and who knows where that might lead. What kind of people shoot out other people's lights on a regular basis? Sure they may be just punks but one never knows these days.
Are the lights THAT important? Might be better to put in a burglar alarm that goes off when someone comes upto or onto the property. Should be able to film them too. Sneaks won't take the chance most likely.
Don't you just hate destructive punks! ha!

It sounds like the lights are being targeted for some reason! It may be that a neighbor is the one doing it, because the light is in some way disturbing them.

I would mount a security camera (hidden) outside, and also put up a dummy camera to let the vandal know that they are being recorded! Most likely they will try to shoot out the dummy camera, and be recorded by the outdoor hidden one!!

When you catch the scumbag, press charges and then file a civil suit asking for serious punitive damages!

get on a ladder and check out the line of sight. someone who is doing that is probably staying inside their house when they shoot...so i'd try to see if there's a window that (A) is in the line of sight of the lights and/or (B) might be in the light when those lights are on. also, if you don't want them shot out again and you don't care about pressing charges, i'd say pick up some adhesive and small pieces of Plexiglass...adhere the Plexiglass to the light bulbs and that should solve the problem...unless they're a really good shot.

Try using a dog for a bit. They will bark if someone comes close to your home. This will give you an idea if they are coming up close to shoot them out. Place motion detectors on the lights this should calm down any neighbors that may be mad about them.

As you said you had a video camera watching it from inside your window, you probaly should get an outside camera with nightvision and install it. That way you can catch who did it and maybe a license plate number if they have a car.

Put a dimmer light in. Then see if they get shot out. If they don't I guess you stop brothering someone's eyes.
