I'm having a new refrigerator delivered and installed very soon. Part of the service is hooking it up and turning it on. I seem to remember reading somewhere that it is better to let the unit sit quietly after transporting it, BEFORE starting it up. something about letting bubbles in the refrigerant or something. Is this true? (I can wait if it is!)

I work for Whirlpool Corp. in Fort Smith, AR. We make about 2,500 refrigerators everyday. As long as your new frig has been shipped upright, it will be okay to plug it in immediately. If it has been anything other than that, wait 24 hours to be completely safe. I would not take any chances, I mean it probably cost you allot of money. So wait at least 4 - 8 hours and you should be okay. If it were me I'd wait to full 24 hours. The driver of the truck might have had to slam on the brakes, who knows? Paul

The fridge can be started up if it has been kept upright. Usually with a full size fridge this is not a problem, but it can be a concern with mini-fridges. This is because the oil for the condenser can drain and, if turned on, damage it if it has spent too much time on its side or upside down. In those cases, yes it would need to sit for several hours for the oil to settle.

In short, you should be fine. Don't worry about it.

You should be able to start it up immediately ( provided, of course, that you hook up any water lines if you have an automatic ice maker ).
