Hey guys, got a question for you. I am thinking of signing a lease to a new apartment and I am worried about the noise level. the apartment is a loft, and the designated bedroom "nook" shares a wall with the next door unit's bathroom, the toilet is on the same wall and everything. I am worried that at night I will hear the toilet flushing and everything. When I talked to the super about it, he said each unit is insulated above code. I am in California, so what does that mean? Do you think I'll hear anything from the other side of the wall? The other wall where I can put my bed also shares a wall with the next door apartment, but that wall is the likely place where my neighbor will place his or her bed and I thought that might get a little weird if either of us is, uh, entertaining in the evening. Thoughts?
Thanks

I want to buy a home, but my boyfriend wants to buy land. We can't afford to buy land and build a house. He says it's really cheap and convenient to build a "machine shed" and actually design your home inside the building. I've seen a house that is actually a working barn and the family just lives in a decent sized portion of the barn. It looks totally normal on the inside but from the outside, it's just a barn. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I live alone & this winter is frigid! But is $214 a reasonable monthly bill? I don't think so. I run the heat at about 75 at night and turn it down to 65 during the day. I used to turn it off for the day, but the heating bill didn't seem much lower. The windows seem OK. And we have a a sliding patio door, but I rarely go out there, esp. in the winter. Can I cover this door somehow? What else can I do to save money?

I saw some really pretty orchids like this in a magazine and some other plant but I couldn't figure out what it was. I like plants that are easy to care for. I saw the examples in the Pottery barn catalog

I had a custom toughened glass shower-door made recently which shattered very quickly! The glass was 6mm thick with square corners. I have been told that if the corners were rounded slightly, this may make the glass less susceptible to breaking as this is the weak point of toughened glass. Is this true?

Why are the prices of these panels and/or entire photovoltiac systems are so far out of the price range of the people that really could benefit from them?

And is there any subsized programs to help in purchasing the panels other than the tax credits the government is giving?

I ran across a box (made by Downing Box Company w/Certificate) with a mailing date of 1971, Top Value Enterprises Redemption Center #162 with a cooky press set: mirro cookie press and decorator set; 23 pieces are present and in great condition. it looks to be used very little; original box, just shows a little age. model number is M-0350-57.

My Sofa is set across my lounge and is not against a wall. Behind it is my PC trolley. Does anyone know any way to stop the sofa sliding?

I have tried the non-slip mat you can get and it's helped but still isn't great as any weight on it compresses it and stops it working. Any ideas anyone?

All I can think is a door stop behind the leg but that means damaging my carpet!
