I live alone & this winter is frigid! But is $214 a reasonable monthly bill? I don't think so. I run the heat at about 75 at night and turn it down to 65 during the day. I used to turn it off for the day, but the heating bill didn't seem much lower. The windows seem OK. And we have a a sliding patio door, but I rarely go out there, esp. in the winter. Can I cover this door somehow? What else can I do to save money?

Get a sheet of heavy plastic and put it over the glass door and all of the windows.
Make sure your weather stripping is in good condition.
also instead of turning up the heat at night set it at about 68 during the day when nobody is home set it to 65.
This will work best if you have a programmable thermostat.
If you are cold at night put on another blanket or wear sweats to bed.
Also get the gas company to check for leaks in the gas line.
Is you water heater gas? if so check for water leaks this can also cause your bill to go up.
