A good rule of thumb is to buy the medium priced one. Go into a store that sells irons. Take a look at the different features that you want. Steam, dial settings, what it'll iron, what kind of finish it has, etc. Buy the medium priced one and you'll likely get a version that is just as good as the high priced one and if you take care of it, will last just as long.

I`ll bet and give odds, if you had to use either an 8 or 12 lb sadd iron, and had to heat it on the kitchen stove, you would think your present iron was a honey.

the best thing is not to iron, I don't, can't stand the job, I put my clothes in the tumble dryer for about 10 mins and just fold them up, they look just as good, I'm not a very good ironer, and it save my legs,

I like a steam iron. But it's got to have a spritzer on the front for when you make a crease you didn't intend to make.

My Grandma reckons the one you attach to them Polti Steamcleaners are the best she's used (and at 91yrs old she's had more than plenty of practise).

Just spotted this variation of it on Amazon UK, but it's a little bit pricey: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Polti-PLEU0007-INOX3500R-Iron/dp/B0000C738Q/ref=sr_1_1/203-9338484-3266364?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen

I have an Oreck iron. I love it. My favorite thing is that you can charge it and use it cordless or use it with a cord.
