Hey guys, got a question for you. I am thinking of signing a lease to a new apartment and I am worried about the noise level. the apartment is a loft, and the designated bedroom "nook" shares a wall with the next door unit's bathroom, the toilet is on the same wall and everything. I am worried that at night I will hear the toilet flushing and everything. When I talked to the super about it, he said each unit is insulated above code. I am in California, so what does that mean? Do you think I'll hear anything from the other side of the wall? The other wall where I can put my bed also shares a wall with the next door apartment, but that wall is the likely place where my neighbor will place his or her bed and I thought that might get a little weird if either of us is, uh, entertaining in the evening. Thoughts?
Thanks

Ask your prospective neighbor to be a Mensch and go flush his toilet a few times, maybe even run the shower or bath for you while you audition it in your apartment.

Be a good way to get to know the neighbors and also to know what to expect as far as noise levels go.

Yes, keep looking for another apt that may have one or two non connecting walls. No matter if the walls are insulated above code, doesn't mean you are not going to hear noises at night, or any other time. If you are that concerned about noise, I would think twice before signing the lease, especially if it is long term.

I have lived in several apartments over the years and honestly do not remember ever being bothered by noises. Ear plugs work wonders too...

I live in an apartment where we have seperate suites, but I can honestly not hear anything from other peoples apartments. It's really quiet.
