My house is approx. 50 yrs old. All of the water lines inside the house are copper. I would guess these copper lines are original to the house. However, when you get to say a toilet or a sink, it turns into a galvanized piece. I'm guessing the copper runs right up to the wall, then they used a galvanized piece through the wall. Why would they do this? I replaced some shutoffs recently and noticed the galvanized was quite corroded inside. Most of the house has very strong water pressure, but a couple of the bathroom sinks are quite a bit weaker.

I bought an entire new system for my house last year. It is a carrier infinity system with variable speed blowers (Top of the line). I can't seem to get a straight answer out of my contractor. Indoor humidity reads 62%, I have the system set to dehumidify at 46% (Lowest Setting). The system works at cooling, but once it reaches the set temperature, everything turns off. Shouldn't the fan keep blowing to continue to dehumidify even though no more cooling is required? Both the fan coil and condenser is quiet. Carrier boasts efficient humididy control, so I am surprised this is not working.

My shower pipe burst and the water has wet the drywall. Someone told me it will be fine once the drywall dries up but, how do I know for sure? The person who told me this is not an expert. How do I know if I need to replace the drywall or not?

The vase was worth nearly £10,000 as it was a 200 year old piece of porcelin. It has been in my wife's family for 150 years and cannot be replaced. I knocked it off a shelf I was dusting and it has broken into 4 pieces with a lot of little fragments.

Should I:

1. Stick what I can back together and hope that she won't notice
2. Own up and take the earache for the next 10 years
3. Tell her next doors cat got in and knocked it off
4. Pack my bags and get out whilst the going is still good
5. Invent an excuse of your own

My floors were installed with ceramic tiles about eight months ago. I have recently noticed that the grout is breaking out around them. Can someone tell me how to repair them? Does one just fill in the cracked out area or must I remove the old grout as best I can and just about start over again?

I got some mold on the walls of my basement after a flood. Now, there are these somewhat red spots in the carpet, and there's little pieces of [of what look like pasta] growing out of it. They are in shades of cream to brown. How do i get rid of that [pasta thing] and some mold on the walls without my parents finding out?

If my parents find out, I'm in a lot of trouble.

For almost 2 years this fridge has worked great, but now we have a little problem. The only button on the front ice/water dispenser that works properly is the lock button. The others kind of work, by this I mean when they are pushed they switch to the selection. If the blower in the refrigerator side is blowing when a button is pushed it stops and then about 10 seconds later comes on again. I did it a few times to make sure that it wasn't coincidence. Also when you take a cup and push the switch to get some ice or water you get nothing. Instead of the light coming on like normal when the switch is pushed in, it comes on afterwards. Also when the switch is pushed in there is a clicking noise at the control board in the back of the fridge. I have looked at to see if any fuses were blown, but the fuse is ok at the bottom of the board. The clicking seems to be coming from the top part of the board. Sorry if this is a bit much, but wanted to include all details that I could think of.

I have a hole in the dry wall about the size of a golf ball above the mirror over the bathroom sink. A new light fixture was put up and while taking out the old fixture the hammer head went into the wall. The problem is that there is nothing behind the sheet rock to hold any plaster and the wiring from the light is there. I have no one to help me and I can't come up with an idea.

The oil level is not overfilled, and it sometimes doesn't smoke until I level out again. It doesn't smoke going up hill or on a flat, just down. It is a 7 year old Scott's 17HP mower that I got used from a person who rarely used it. It looks practically new! Any suggestions would be great!

Not the seat part, but the lid to the tank.

I picked the lid up and it broke, but I can't figure out where to buy a new one without buying the entire toilet.

Thanks in advance.
