A few months ago my brother and I added a covered porch to his existing home and have seemed to notice the interior walls cracking in the corners, 6 feet at the closest from where the roof attaches. The other side is even further away, Is this something serious or is it just the building settling with the extra weight/going through winter expansion?

OK I know this is wrong but I wasn't thinking, I poured hot oil from sausages down my kitchen sink, and the next morning I woke up and there was about five cm of water in my sink that wouldnt drain. This morning it has drained slightly but still fills my sink up about 2-3cm. I want to avoid calling the managing agents and was wondering if there is anything I can do first, plunger etc?

We turned it off under the sink to stop a leak, but when we turned it back on, the pressure was gone. What happened, and what should we do about it?

I like the allergen filters, but someone recently told us the blue ones put less stress on your heat/ac system and are better in the long run.

I am looking for a generator head to fit a generac 7000/12250 surge portable generator. I understand that the tapered shaft on the engine is some weird size that a aftermarket head won't work. Is there a special taper coupling that will join a taper shaft to a straight shaft? Thanks for your help.

We have checked the floo and that is fine. We have checked the area where it bends to the stove itself and that is fine. What else do we need to check? Please I hope someone knows we dont want to hire someone to over charge us for something that we can do ourselves. Thank you ahead of time.....

I have cement stains in the ceiling surrounding my chimney. The house was built 3 years ago and the first stain appeared about 6 months ago. A small stain appeared and when I went up and looked in the attic I could only find a small amount of dry cement used to build the chimney that had dropped onto the plasterboard right where the stain is, obviously during the build process. As the house was built three years ago this is no longer wet cement and the stains have suddenly appeared. Now I have a bigger stain and the cement is dry again and right above the stain in the ceiling .....Can cement still stain even when hardened and dry in the attic for a number of years? Will it work just to paint over the stain or will it come back? There is definitely no water coming in as nothing is wet and there is nothing in the attic above the stains that would drip onto the attic floor, there is also no sign of a leak surrounding the chimney through the roof. All help appreciated ;0)

Can someone tell me why is it that every single time I have to shut my water supply off to fix a busted pipe, it messes up the 'ball/cock' in the back of my toilet and the tank just keeps running? I'v tried to adjust the screw, but it just won't stop running! Help, please........

We recently had a central heating and air system installed 4 months ago.. We had problems from the start..the bills were coming insanely pricey and system wasnt being used. Electrician came and had a look, turned out the installers crossed two wires and that was the problem.. We called the company to have them come down and fix the problem, first they stated everything was okay.. after calling yet again they said they would send someone to fix it, never did. We were having our house remodeled this past week when the heater which is in the attic exploded.. the house, rooms were filled with smoke.. The painters grabbed the hose and put out the fire. Well our ceilings and walls are damaged... When the owner of the company came to have a look he stated he would replace the heater but couldnt do anything about the walls/ceilings because he "didnt cause the fire".

I ordered an electric toaster from e-bay, and it's really reaalllly cool, except when I got it in the mail I noticed that the plug is not compatible with our outlets in the US. Is it safe to use a power converter on a toaster? Can it be rewired?

Thanks for your help!

It's not leaking from the pipes, but from the bottom of the machine at the front. Looks like it is a metal part that is leaking...

Is there a way to tell when to change the filters in my drinking water system? Also, is is really necessary to use the bleach/water solution to clean the holding tank and filter holders, or is it good enough to just changed the filters?

The water pressure in my house is really low. It has been fine but all of a sudden the whole house is low. I don't have a well or anything like that. I've tried cleaning out the filters in the faucets but that didn't help. Any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The City of Toronto has a downspout disconnect program in which I participated. Initially I had the water go into a rain barrel but the bend in the downspout, before the run off pipe began, would always freeze and spill water out on to the walkway between my house and my neighbours and create a scary ice patch. I finally got rid of the rain barrel thinking the diversion mechanism was slowing the water down to the extent that it would allow the water to freeze. I have had the downspout replaced with 4" aluminum downspout which has frozen and is leaking again. Toronto plumbers are not supposed to reconnect downspouts and plus mine has been made completely inaccessible because I had a drain guy fix a leak in my basement (which he maintains was a result of the downspout not being disconnected properly). I still want to keep the rainwater flowing to the lawn. How can I configure the downspout so this freezing and leaking won't happen?
