Can someone tell me why is it that every single time I have to shut my water supply off to fix a busted pipe, it messes up the 'ball/cock' in the back of my toilet and the tank just keeps running? I'v tried to adjust the screw, but it just won't stop running! Help, please........

When you shut off the water and then turn it back on, you often get debris from your pipes (old scale, or other deposits the build in your pipes) breaking loose. These small chunks of debris can get stuck in the ballcock valve's seat and cause it to not seat back off properly. No real way around it unless you want to flush your water system good after the repair, maybe at an outdoor hose bib. You might also want to check your aerators on your sinks.

If your system has an old float ball I'd upgrade to a fluidmaster fill valve. Make sure you read the directions for proper installation of the hose and nipple to the overflow tube.
