You would do better to use PVC cement. It is a solvent cement, so use it sparingly; it dissolves the PVC.

Which fitting are you talking about??? Why are you so sure its the fitting that's leaking? Is the fitting screwed tight? Find out why it's leaking, and then if it is a damaged part, go get replacement parts and fix it right. Silicone on pipe fittings is only a temporary fix and won't last long. PVC parts are cheap..... make sure you have the right parts, and that they are assembled right, that will fix the leak.

There is a glue(yellow in clor) that is specifically made to bond PVC to PVC (polyvinylcloride). You may have to cut the pipe below and above the leak, use connector pieces and a piece of new pipe. Make sure when applying the glue to the new connector pieces that you fully coat all around the piece for full adhesion and unbroken contact. It sets up very quickly, so dry fit all pieces first before glueing. Make sure as well all pieces are aligned strait for full contact! If you take your time with it, you will be surprised how easy it can be! Good luck!

Can you loosen and then re-tighten all connectors. adding a silicone or putty is temporary, although I have seen it work :> it is just not the right way.
