My central heating system is very noisy and about 25 years old. I have a back boiler in the lounge, and a header tank in the loft, and a immersion heater in bedroon #4. I want to get rid of all of these and just have a good combi loatced in the garage heating eveything. I would like to know roughly the cost for this (not going to replace any rads) and any specificaitons regarding placement of the combi. It will be placed on an exteranal wall, faceing onto our own land, with a flue of its own. I have a corgi plumber lined up to do the work, but I'm just looking for ideas and suggestions as to how i can get the whole thing done as smoothly and cheaply as possible. Is there any boiler you recommend. Which are the most efficient etc. which to remove first - header, boiler or immerision etc. do it all in 1 week, or bit by bit?

I don't think my heater is working correctly, the air just feels luke warm when it runs and it seems to run a long time. How hot should the air be coming out? Should you be able to feel the heat?

Our combi boiler is controlled by a HoneyWell controller.
When h/w and c/h are set to timed, they both work fine.
If h/w is then set to constant and c/h remains on timed, the c/h appears to remain working even outside of the timed periods. i.e c/h not switching off.

The socket on the wall is three prong, two horizontal prong-inputs and one ground-prong input. Note that this is an Air Conditioner outlet and not a 20 AMP outlet, which is similar. I was to find some way to adapt it for regular 15AMP usage. Because both wires are 'hot' on the air conditioner outlet, this may not be possible. I am assuming that the outlet is 240 volts, though I see terms like 250/208 volts and the like. Also, the casing for the outlets is as such: two regular 15 AMP outlets, and next to them, where there would be usually two more 15 AMP outlets, there is just the one Air Conditioner outlet, which would make sense. Any help would be appreciated. I suspect I'll just have to leave the outlet alone, which seems a waste of an outlet.

If I don't get my house refinanced I am worried I may have to let the bank take it back. Already filed chapter 7 bankruptcy 3 years ago and got ourselves into another bad home situation. What is the likelihood of a mortgage co. working to help you remove PMI if you inform them you cannot afford the payment anymore and will be forced to give up the home if the PMI stays on the payment?

vertical cracks in walls above doorways and windows/doors do not work properly at certain times of the year/brick home with quarter to half inch diagonal cracks outside/slab foundation-this is a foundation problem right? or just "normal settling" or just shoddy drywalling?

Help. The exterior roof line over my garage is sagging from old age. Just had a new roof put on and it did not improve the sag as the roofer said it would. Can I have something done about this without disturbing the new shingles? Any one know? Or have a referral?

When I flush the toilet, the water rises but doesn't drain. I don't have a plunger or a snake and am in the process of acquiring one but there are air bubbles rise every once in a while. My in-sink-errator (sp?) is also making gurgling noises. A. What does that mean? B. How could they be related? C. I dumped some of the toilet water into the tub and it drained there. If the toilet plunging/snaking works then it was obviously clogged. If not and the sink continues, should I call maintenance? and/or tell them of both? (I don't want to get charged for a complicated service request) D. Is showering OK? I've tried googling and whatnot but I'm a novice when it coming to nonfunctional plumbing =(

Are they on a thermostat?

My new apartment has one right under my room and it sounds like a train running through the building. It comes on every 20 mins!!!!!

How long will this go on?

Help me!!!

my landlord is trying to hold us responsible for a plumbing bill, and replacement of carpet padding in the bathroom and kitchen, becaue we had a back up in the shower drain, he is trying to telll us that HIS plumber buddy found baby wipes when snakeing out the drain, therefore we are responsible for the damages and the bill. (they are FLUshable wipes made by kleenex) we called a plumber out of the phone book and he came over and looked at our plumbing and told us that the plumbing is outdated, and the tub is missing a p-trap. He said that it was very unlikely that those wipes would have caused aa problem that big.
the landlord is threatening to evict us if we dont pay the bill, what shoud i do?

I have a rheem air conditioning unit. Tonight I noticed that it was not warming the house. I turned it off for about an hour and then turned it back on. After I turned it on it did start warming the house, but I heard running water. When I looked I found that the handler was pouring out water from the bottom of the unit. I could not locate from exactly where because of the screen (not the filter). I turned it back off and the water subsided. I checked the drain but it was not clogged.
Any suggestions why this would happen?

Thanks

I am buying a house and the furnace is old. I have heard new furnaces cost a fortune since they need all new exhaust tubing. Can one get an old refurbished furnace? If you can, how much do they usually go for (preferably in Canadian currency) ? Thanks a bunch!

Hey All,
We just bought a house, and it has a SMALL laundry area (basically just HD Hookups) in the pantry area off the kitchen.

i would like to move the machines about 12-15 feet into the garage.

however, i do not want to alter the current placement of the hookups, if / when we sell, the future owners might want their machines inside.

So, i know i will have to drill through the wall into the garage, im ready for that, but what do i do about the washing machine water inlet hoses, and drain?

And for the dryer, how do i extend the power cord?
Our garage has vents that i can use to vent the dryer..

Is this a DIY project, or should i hire someone? im pretty handy around this place..

Thanx,

My stove/oven is about 8 years old. I have already replaced the lower oven element once about 2 years ago. Now it appears to need replacing again. Is this normal or could there be a short that is causing these to fail? Should I replace the element again or get a new stove?

The hour hand usually drops at about the 2 or 3 o'clock position. It's usually o.k. until I try to wind the clock. Then the little vibrations, or whatever, will cause the hand to drop, sometimes all the way down to the 6! If anyone has any knowledge of this sort of thing, I certainly would appreciate some pointers.
