My central heating system is very noisy and about 25 years old. I have a back boiler in the lounge, and a header tank in the loft, and a immersion heater in bedroon #4. I want to get rid of all of these and just have a good combi loatced in the garage heating eveything. I would like to know roughly the cost for this (not going to replace any rads) and any specificaitons regarding placement of the combi. It will be placed on an exteranal wall, faceing onto our own land, with a flue of its own. I have a corgi plumber lined up to do the work, but I'm just looking for ideas and suggestions as to how i can get the whole thing done as smoothly and cheaply as possible. Is there any boiler you recommend. Which are the most efficient etc. which to remove first - header, boiler or immerision etc. do it all in 1 week, or bit by bit?

The CORGI plumber will give you more specific advice, but since you are moving the heating source from the lounge to the garage, he will need to re-route all the piping. The water must be turned off to everything except maybe the kitchen tap whilst the work is done. Header, hot water cylinder and back boiler are all connected, so remove one, and the others won't work. Its going to mean major disruption so crack on and get it done - probably 2 -3 days. You are looking at £1000 for the boiler and probably another £1000+ for installation.

I would suggest that you remove the header tank First, then the copper tank with immersion.A days work for a plumber. Is your garage joined to your house or is it detached. If it is detached, you will have to lag all the pipes that will be running to the boiler from the house. That is 5 pipes including the gas.If you are having the back boiler removed, that is a full days work. I would estimate about 10 days to complete.

If you have a corgi registered plumber lined up why don't you ask him. He will know the layout of your house and advise you whats the best way to start.

Install the new boiler first, with flue, gas and electric supplies ready to go, and with all pipework heading to where it will pick up the old, then swap the required connections and start using the new boiler. Then you can strip out the old stuff at your leisure. This means you will only have a few hours downtime at the most.

I also have a Worcester 28i Junior combi it incredibly is 5 years previous. It takes approximately 30 seconds working the water till it warms up. for that reason i would not advise it. additionally, it packed up 2 weeks in the past simply by a blocked swap and price me £sixty 9 to get it fastened. wish it incredibly is of a few use.

make sure you have the system flushed first and all dirt removed!! nightmare imo to add a pressurised combi onto existing gravity fed pipework!! make sure plumber can check all old joints etc some may get thrown if not correctly made with the extra pressure in the combi circuit good idea also to check all tap connectors etc

You need to know the name of a Corgi engineer. It is illegal to do it yourself and you will not be able to sell your house to someone who needs a mortagage without a certificate, which only a Coprgi engineer can give.
