I've been living in my place now for about 5 months.

Shortly after moving in I noticed "faded" spots on my Dark Black Granite counter-top. They wouldn't wipe up with any of the "recommended" cleaning proceedures supplied to us from the construction company.

One thing I noticed about the spots was that they did not occur from "natural" causes. It looks as if they were cause by some kind of a glass or bowl. As the faded spot is a circular area.

Shortly afterwards, more of the same spots started to appear in the form of splashes around the under-mount sink.

At which point I called the construction company the built my home and they had the Granite company come out to do a treatment to it.

They applied some kind of a paste to it about 1/8 of an inch thick over the defective areas. Then, 3 days later came back to remove the treatment. Only to find the areas unchanged.

Afterwards, they're opinion on how to fix was only to replace.

I understand that granite is porous and picks up stains easily. But aside from replacing it, has anyone seen this or fixed something similar?

I have one of those lamps that you touch to make it come on. It's a small one for my bedroom. Recently the bulb blew and I can't find one that works properly. I found one that fits, however, it makes the lamp stay on all the time.
My husband and I have been to several different stores, including stores like Lowe's, Home Depot, Menard's to try and find one. When we asked for help at one of them, the lady told us that it's not the bulb but that the lamp itself is broke. I don't see how that can be, but I have no idea.
So, I need some advise as how to proceed? Do I need a special type of bulb? Is the woman in fact right and the lamp is broke? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Plastic floor mats for office chairs crack and have to be thrown away after a few months. especially when the weather is cold. Is there something else that can be used for the casters that can roll easily and lasts a little longer?

Thanks.

I have radiant heat in my house which allows for each room's thermostat to be regulated individually. Having 6 bedrooms and my husband and myself, we have 3 that are totally shut up with the heat off. The temperatures in there around 40, somtimes colder, but never below freezing. I have been told that this is a bad thing to do because it will cause mold to grow in those rooms. I live in Western, NY... Very cold, snowy winters that last about 4-5 months.

The snow is so high the furnace went out. Can extend it and what would I need to do that? Would it cause carbon monoxide poisoning?

One of the zone control valves in my heating system does not appear to be working. The thermostat is calling for heat, but no water is flowing. If the other thermostats call for heat, the valves seem to open as the pipes above the valve get hot from the water flowing through. The one that appears busted gets luke warm at best. All 4 valves in the system are fed from the same pipe, and the failed valve is the third in the series of 4 along the pipe (and #4 flows fine) so it doesn't appear to be something in the feeder pipe.

Is there anything I can do to try and fix the existing valve, can I replace the valve myself? Would replacing the valve top of the valve (the green/gold portion) possible fix the issue (maybe a problem with the operation of the piston? Is there anything I ahve to do before removing the valve top aside from removing power to the valve?

We have a gas furnace that only works sometimes.

The pilot light is lit. When the thermostat triggers the heater to come on, I do not hear the click that usually happens at this time, the flame does not ignite, and the fan never comes on.

It sometimes helps if I turn the thermostat off for about five minutes then turn it back on and turn up the temperature until it should click on. But when it's happening a lot, this only fixes it the first few times. After a few times, even this won't work. Then we just wait an hour or so and keep trying the above until it comes on.

I live on the third floor of a condo with flex core. The first two floors have concrete ceilings, but since I'm on the third floor, my ceiling has drywall with an attic above. Over the years, the drywall has settled pretty badly, and there are cracks all over the ceiling of the condo. Am I responsible for the ceiling or is the condo association?

Hi all, I have three 13ft, floor-to-ceiling windows in my Brighton flat and they're suffering terribly with condensation at the moment. I'm wiping them down six or seven times a day (it's a losing battle) and the run off is playing havoc with the woodwork. I can't change the windows as the building is listed. Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? Is there some kind of treatment I can put on the glass?

Any peels, like apple for example, just stay in the disposer and I have to take them out by hand. Shouldn't it be able to handle apple peels? I know it's not recommended to put in potato peels, but I thought disposers should be able to handle most everything else. If it should handle apple peels and the like, can the problem be fixed?

Apparently the former owners of our mobile home had a problem with something underneath the trailer (leaky faucets, etc) and tore out the support from underneath the garden tub in the master-bath. I noticed what looked like a hair one day while cleaning the tub and realized that it was not a hair it was a crack!!
The crack is only about an inch long and is still fitted together, so I don't think it leaks much at all, unless one side or the other gets pushed down. It's definitely not a gaping hole or anything and we do still use the tub, though we are careful to stay away from the crack, which is in the very bottom, about 4 inches from the drain.
We are planning on going under the trailer this summer to "shore" things back up, but I need to know if there is any way to fix the crack without having to replace the whole tub. There is no way we can afford that..
