Any peels, like apple for example, just stay in the disposer and I have to take them out by hand. Shouldn't it be able to handle apple peels? I know it's not recommended to put in potato peels, but I thought disposers should be able to handle most everything else. If it should handle apple peels and the like, can the problem be fixed?

We used to have the same problem, and replaced the disposal with a commerical grade disposal. It has a higher horsepower, and gobbles up anything it's fed. Well worth the increased price!

I just bought a garbage disposal from Sears last month (3/4 h.p.) & it handles fruit peels, potato peels, etc. I think it all depends on the size of your disposal. (how many horse power it is) You might try putting a tray of ice cubes in your disposal, turn it on, & the ice cubes will sharpen the blades. If your disposal still doesn't elimininate the peels, then the only thing to do is purchase one that does.

Yeah you need a new one. When you replace it don't put any types of peeling in it and no rice! It will help in making it last longer. And throw in a cut up lemon so it doesn't stink.

Mine deals with everything including t-bones (not that I do that, but it can handle it). When I remodeled my kitchen I put in a massive horsepower In-Sink-Erater with stainless steel parts. I figured overkill was better than regretting being cheap and I'm very glad I made that decision.

Mine takes care of them fine. You might need a new one.
