UNPLUG IT RIGHT AWAY - it could start a fire - call an electrician to come look at it and give the bill and estimate to fix it to the landlord. I don't know where you live but not fixing something that is a hazard could be a liability to the landlord.

it may have a loose, broken, or pinched wire. there could also be a broken switch that is sending power to the frame. have you cleaned the stove lately, or had a pot of water boil over? if the insulation got wet it could hold water and be causing a part to short out. since your landlord rented the place with a stove, he is responsible for it's repair and providing you with a working stove. check with your town or city housing authority as to your rights. if he won't get it fixed you can tell him you will have it repaired and deduct the repair bill from your rent. also, if anyone gets hurt or worse, he is liable, and you'll sue. good luck, hope it's fixed soon for you.

shut off the breaker that the stove services, do not unplug the stove, this could be dangerous and fatal. After shutting off the breaker then asses the problem, could be a loose wire.
